Sonar 8.5.3 had a right click menu editor (Options / Menu Editor), where you assign add functions from the top menu to your right click menu.  This was extremely helpful at making frequently used operations accessible (and also hiding any right click items you don't often use). 
 
I can't seem to find the Menu Editor in Platinum, however. 
 
Can you please let me know where to find it?

It does make it a lot easier to offer help when everybody is on the same page. I remember when it was introduce and never took advantage of it because it would mean I would not have the same menu structure as everybody else. This would have serious repercussions in my ability to offer help. 

Tripecac, you really need to understand that the code base for the X series has many differences compared to 8.5. 8.5 had an insane amount of menu clutter. The solution was to allow you to modify it. The solution in the X series was to add sub-menus that are context-sensitive in the sense of moving purely track-oriented commands to the Track View. I think most users would agree that on balance, this is a better way of doing things and promotes a more streamlined workflow by showing options only in a context where they're relevant.
 
You are mistaken to think that this function was simply "taken out." The structure changed in the process of localizing menu choices. Therefore the way of implementing the function was no longer possible.
 
Next, note how many versions it took from SONAR 1.0 to include features that became part of 8.5. The X series will go through a similar evolution over time. It wouldn't surprise me if menu customization was added back in along a similar point on the program's trajectory, even though I think most people would consider it "nice, but not essential." Also as noted, because the structure is changed, it's not a question of adding something that already existed back in, but creating something new. VST3 support, ARA integration, and Windows 10 compatibility are new features that I believe are far more important for most people. 
 
The option to do user menu customization hasn't existed for quite some time, so if this is the first time you've discovered this and are therefore asking the question, it can't be all that important to you. There are reasons behind the decisions that are made and to assume that complaining about them will make a difference is highly unlikely. Feature requests, resources, more engineers, and a groundswell of support are more likely to make a difference over time.

I do hope they add back customisation, because that was the main selling point of Cakewalk Pro Audio/Sonar for me: customisation. Perhaps we should request lots of extraneous features now, so that they feel the UI is bloated, and add back customisation! ;)
 
Out of the box X+ (X1/2/3/Platinum) might be easier to use that 8.5.3, but X+ limits your customisation and therefore your optimisation.  I'm a programmer, so CAL, StudioWare, menu customisation, and all those other "geeky" optimisations were right up my alley.  I had 8.5.3 purring beautifully, like a finely tuned vehicle.
 
I had a really great workflow in the pre-X1 days.  Back then I was finishing around 5 albums each year!  After X1, I find myself spending less and less time making music, partly due to frustration over bugs, UI inefficiency, and limitations (which everyone says are "trivial" but are not trivial to me).  Nowadays I'm lucky to squeeze out one album a year.  Also, the amount of time I spend polishing songs has been drastically reduced, simply because I do not enjoy using the piano roll in X+.  So both the quantity and quality of my output has gone down, in part because of X+'s "trivial" bugs and limitations.  This is a sore spot for me.  I have so many music ideas, but so little patience with Sonar's later versions.  They rub me the wrong way.  Consistently.
 
If you think my relationship with this forum is toxic, imagine my relationship with Sonar itself.  We went from 10 years of honeymoon bliss to 5 years of cursing and throwing dishes.  X1 was the turning point.
 
 

why not use the customization module in the control bar ?
it can do almost anything the right click context menu can do and more.
there is sooo much ability to customize in sonar platinum.
 
I think what you may be running in to now is a learning curve of a new version of sonar.
for example the customization module. you don't even need to right click anything.
you just press a button. and you can customize these buttons for 100's of  different commands.
 
its not always about the limitations, its about how you work.
Sonar is not going to adapt to you, you have to adapt to it.
and if you don't want to adapt to it, your wasting your time.
 

You might want to look at Screen sets as well as the custom module in the control bar. Cal is still supported as is studioware. There is also the multidock for doing all sorts of things. As a matter fact from a users perspective Platinum offers a great deal of very useful customization. Mix recall is also a type of customization that is unique. Really Sonar 8.5 was a mess in comparison. It worked true enough but the new Sonar works much better.  
 
Platinum is not so non customizable as you think. Soon we'll have custom themes too.  On a duel monitor system Platinum shines. 

Why not just go back to Sonar 8.5.3?
