I'm running a prime95 blended torture test just to see what happens... but I'm very unfamiliar with it.

Do I have to sift through the logs from each core looking for error statements or will there be some sort of special notification if something doesn't work 100%?

I found a lot of tutorials explaining how to start the test but very little info about what to look for or anticipate as results come in.


Any tips?

No need to read the logs.
If there are any errors... on any core... it'll be listed and that core's test will halt.  

If there were no errors, (when you stop the testing) each core's test will mention how long it ran... and specifically say with zero errors and zero warnings.

Jim, generally, would you recommend running prime95 on a new build?
(I've noticed a lot of mobo reviewers that run this for benchmarks, but is it useful on a new build?)

Yes
Prime95 is a stress-test.
Don't assume that because something is new... that all components are fine.
Yes, they should be... but that's not always the case.

I too have read that Prime95 hasn't been updated in like 10 years so I've been using AIDA64.
Any thoughts on this program?


Seems like a nice program but would like to know what you and Jim feel about it.
I'm on the trial version and if it's lacking in any important ways I'll save my $40 and get which ever is recommended like  Sisoft Sandra burn in.

I'm one of those guys that assumes that old is just as good as new.

In fact, I know of a lot of examples where old stuff is better than new.

That doesn't mean I am not interested in what is new.

I don't want to type that much info..
I haven't use prime 95 in like 12 yrs and when I did it was in conjunction with other tests its more a gaming test.

Sisoft allows you to benchmark or burn in very specific components such as just ram, just GPU ability just ram cache or processor cache.
or any combination of area specific
it can tell you where your weak points are..

by far the better product and its also free for home use
