I need a new graphics card to support my 2 monitors.
The monitors are equipped with a VGA socket and what I believe is a DVI-D connector:
 

 
Several of the cards I've looked at so far sport a DVI-D and a DVI-I socket.
Many are equipped with one VGA and one DVI-I
 
I could run VGA of course but this technology is slowly being phased out.
 
Question is, can I run DVI-I to DVI-D without issue?
Would a card with DVI-D and DVI-I address the 2 monitors independently?

AFAIK, the DVI-I is a hybrid connector that will support VGA (via the extra pins), but do not think it runs both at the same time (i.e. cannot run one DVI-D and one VGA off that same connector). It is DVI-D compatible, so a DVI-I & DVI-D port combo is good for potential future monitor replacement (you can run a VGA now off the DVI-I (plus cable), and replace with a DVI-D when you get a new monitor down the road). The card should recognize the monitor it is connected to and allow you to adjust accordingly.

Most cards come with adapters to use VGA.  I have two Acer monitors that only use VGA and no need for me to replace them unless they die.
