  • How does one set an end time to a recording in Sonar? (p.2)

I have had many projects which have envelopes with no nodes past the "end of the song" but the playback will continue regardless of that box being checked or not.  there's always been a "bug" in the envelopes in that regard.  the only hard thing I can tie it to is when an envelope gets the "dashed" line past the end then it reads it continuously and so continues to play.  the only way I know of to make the dashed line back into a solid line is to delete the envelope and start over.  99.9% of the time it's not worth that much effort.

for this very reason I wish cakewalk would implement an "end of song marker" and even a "begining of song" marker.

All I can say is that this project did end at 234:01:000 at one time but then I chopped off the time by editing to make it a shorter song. I know the old tracks are archived in the original time. But that's it. The project now is effectively 202:01:000. But the end time does not want to cooperate.

Try selecting everything between the range 202-234 with all tracks selected and then Edit>Delete.  Tick all the delete options, including "Delete Hole".

I agree that it's an annoying part of Sonar and have had many fights with this myself, Sometimes the opposite happens and a song cuts off abruptly if a MIDI track ends. Have to slip edit a little time in the end so it will catch the sustain. What is needed is the ability to simply delete the timeline past the point you wish it to end. With wave lab it's a simple shift/end/delete

Yep....did that too, (W/Delete hole). Still keeps wanting to end at 234:01:000.

Are any of your tracks hidden? If so, I suggest making everything visible while trying to figure out what is going on.

Do you have Options>Non-Destructive Midi Editing enabled?

I also suggest taking a look at the Event List View and seeing if any Midi notes have any abnormally long durations near the end of your project.

Have you got any muted clips in the project? If so, try un-muting them briefly and see what happens.

Trust me.

Thanks for th MIDI suggestions but I strickly work with audio no MIDI. I guess this is an issue to raise. I too like having control of were my project begins and were it ends. Sonar is automated and will not allow for this. I figured a work around which I don't like but it stopped the menacing 'auto' end time.

As I had written before the project was longer and I edited it for a shorter piece. Older archived tracks which reflected the older longer track times were hidden as I am accustomed to hiding archived tracks.

Once I deleted the archived tracks Sonar stopped recognizing the old end time of 234:01:000 and recognized the newer end time of 202:01:00. Pretty much what you guys summed up. But I thought archived tracks would have no bearing on an existing project? Oh well....thanks guys! You's guys are awesome.

Select all tracks from the end to where it stops and use View Event List to see what's keeping it playing. If nothing in there go backwards a few measures at a time and find some event with a long duration.
