CC data is assignable midi
continuous controller data. To take an example, in EastWest Hollywood Strings, some patches switch articulations using mod wheel data. The articulations crossfade as you move the wheel up or down. Others require adding midi CC11 data to automate
expression. Some use both. There are a lot of CC types available, but the most commonly used are:
- 1 - Mod Wheel
- 2 - Breath Controller (no, you don't actually have to have one)
- 5 - Portamento Time
- 7 - Volume
- 10 - Pan
- 11 - Expression
- 64 - Sustain Pedal
- 65 - Portamento On/Off
There are many, many others, but the VST must be programmed to recognize and respond to them. Read the manual for the VST you are using.
