fixed!! Disabled "zero midi controller" under "project/midi

That's not a fix. Now mod and pitch wheel changes won't be reset when you stop playback. So, you are missing cc data in your tracks. That's the real fix.

Actually I think herbroselle has the right fix.

Mising CC data in this case isn't really the issue. This happens with some vsti's (especially certain kontakt libraries) that use non standard control changes to adjust levels, even with no data in the midi track. The first time you press stop after loading the instrument it will no longer sound. It is entirely due to the zero midi controler setting, and disabling it in this instance is the only fix. I have had it disabled for years, I program entirely in midi and have had no issues at all. It would only be an issue if you stopped in the middle of pitch bend data, and even then I imagine simply pushing the midi reset button would restore order.

thanks for that info as well. Right now, I'm going to Home Depot for some spackling to repair the wall from banging my head against it.

Sincerely, I do appreciate the time taken to help me with this problem. It WILL be solved.

If you have disabled the 'zero midi controller' on stop setting you have already solved it herbroselle :)

Not necessarily.

If you have articulation changes baked into the Midi track, the next time playback starts will trigger the last artic(s) loaded, which might be the one(s) you want, but I'm never that lucky

True Jonesey, but disabling the zero controller function is still the only solution I have found to this problem.  It's pretty hard to work with a synth that won't make any sound! I searched every config file to try and find a paramater that would set which controllers were zeroed in order to isoate the problem cc (it is mod in the case of my problematic kontakt libraries) to no avail. I really haven't found disabling it to be a big deal.

Midi CC11 is certainly a standard, and for the OP's issue, adding CC11 automation to raise the level from zero (the default) to something else is the correct approach. I never have this problem, and I have "Zero controllers on stop" enabled. I would rather set my controllers properly, and know which articulation is selected, rather than use whatever level is Sonar's default for a new midi track. Granted, there is no reason you couldn't still do that and disable the reset option...

Now, if there were an option to specify which controllers got reset, I'd be all for that.
