Sorry, my brain hurts.

Ditto.

Prolly not for the same reasons as you.

P5, no.  A year or two ago Noel said why - the code was old, the guy had left and it would be better to start from scratch - or SONAR.  One of the great strengths of P5 was its simplicity and it didn't try to do too much but what it did it did well.  It was optimized for using audio and midi loops, so it was great for about 90% of easy looping (and that was fairly new territory - SONAR was the first real DAW to work w/ loops (to my knowledge) and P5 was right on its heels with a great selection of synths.  For an electronic musician it was really nice.

Matrix, yes - again according to Noel around the same time.  I really liked Scratchpad for the iPad and was saying something similar should a model for an windows app or updated Matrix but with a lot more big pads on screen.  A performance thing, custom color the pads and a built-in stereo track+ on a timeline so you could play over backing tracks.  Of course, a plugin like that for SONAR would be fantastic and one up Live!.   He hinted they were thinking along those lines (among many), but it has been a long while a coming.  I'm not holding my breath, only hoping.

Maybe P5 is on the way back? Good news.

Hmmm...

Of course there's no way that Craig could be hinting at something along those lines here... No doubt he's just innocently humming away to himself while he works and accidentally posted it...

Let me clarify. These are very exciting times at Cakewalk. Those in the company are being encouraged not to rule out anything at this point, but keep collecting possibilities and generating ideas. Then will come the difficult task of prioritizing those possibilities and concentrating on what's doable.

Cakewalk's denial of working on a Mac port was not an attempt to be coy or hide anything, there really were issues that seemed impossible to overcome. Those issues became mitigated not all that long ago and suddenly, it seemed possible. Technology is constantly shifting, and one reason why Cakewalk is sometimes vague about future plans is because the company has reached one or more forks in the road and hasn't decided which one to take yet.

Could Project 5 come back? It's not out of the question. If it is possible, though, then it has to join the lineup of other cool stuff to do, and justify itself as being worth doing - and a lot of that will depend on what would be involved in bringing it back, and whether enough people care about it to do so.

In view of recent threads I want to make it clear that I am an Eedjit. I have no direct, or indirect, knowledge of business, the music industry, forum threads or the meaning of life. I know about amps.

Tubey-wan Knobby was your master, yes?

Can this be true?!!!!! It could really augment Sonar I feel. It even had a few features Sonar doesn't- easy way to set up 3rd party audio editor e.g. Yes, a new improved 64bit, multi core P5 could actually happen?!!!!

I wish I worked at a place with that kind of attitude.  Awesome!

I hope in the new direction you make a micropayment real staff view plugin/extension.

make it a macropayment. I am ready to part with a decent amount of cash for that.

I am really excited about the Mac version. I don't use Apple but I can see how a successful implementation on that platform will bring attention and lustre to the brand.

Me, the big announcement did not concede me anything to look forward to. The things I hoped for, a redesigned score editor and an overhauled Audio Snap engine (so it's easy to time quantize multi track recordings) are not even on the VISIBLE roadmap.
Having said all that, I choose to support the brand and will be sticking with Sonar because I understand the Bakers will be listening. All in all we wish for things that would elevate Sonar's desirability and value.

selfish prick mode = OFF

I sincerely admire and applaud the company for such a bold move in this day and age and in such an already unstable and saturated market. Regardless of my personal needs, I admire you for your strategy and truly wish success to Cakewalk. If you're happy, we'll all be happy!
