Hope I can explain this correctly-either we gotten scammed or we got a great deal: There was an old CW forum then. I remember glennbo and Dave M(Modbod). otherwise I am lost. But we all were given a deal ona a new mic that was supposedly U87 clone-to a tea, as in maybe a bit shady. I bought one and still have it. Anyone around than and remember that forum\bulletin board? was very popular for years.
Anyway I bought a Stellar CM5 -advice of some friends for a descent Large Diaphragm Tube Condenser tube. Nice mic for the $$$. Better than the $$ actually-comes with power supply also.
Anyway decided today to A\b my 20+ year old C1 797audio mic(has very little use on it. Well I liked it better-by far. Since I am old now I cannot remember the whole story.....maybe I did get a steal.
Anyone around then that an remember that?
Great mic regardless. I have a friend who has a newer Studio Projects C1 and it is like a different mic next to mine
Thanks
Frank

We got a real good price and mine definitely sounds different (much better-clearer, more definition and clarity and more) than 2 other modern SP C1's in my area I've heard and sang thru.
Bill , do you remember the hype as I described it-sort of?
Thanks for chiming in

I still have and regularly use my SP C1. It's actually one of the best mics I've ever bought. Better than some of my higher end mics. I think I paid $200 for it when it first came out?

Actually wish I would have bought a second one as a backup. I may pick up a used one but I'm really picky about used gear like microphones.

Don't remember a lot of the details, but I do remember it was a but of a circus. At the time low priced microphones had yet to gain a lot of respect, most were poorly manufactured, and not only was consistency an issue, but sometimes they just plain crapped out.

It was interesting!! And I am glad to hear that at least some folks ended up getting really good microphones.

Good info to know. I cannot remember what we paid either. But I think as TerraSin says...it was $199. And it certainly was a zoo. everyone wondering where they were in the wait, etc. I do remember I was in the first batch shipped.

Thanks folks
