  • Can I download older versions of CbB?

With Sonar I tended to download and save all versions, in case I needed to use an older version because of a bug or problem or for testing. Can I do this with CbB? I do have the first one 2018.04 and the latest 2018.06.

When I get ready to install, Bandlab first downloads it to this folder:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\bandlab-assistant\Downloads

I then make a copy of the cakewalk.exe file and save it to a folder on my E drive in case I ever want to reinstall it.

With Sonar I could either use Command Center or go to my cakewalk account and download and save any old or new files from there. Is there a similar place for CbB files? Or if we fail to download a version and then a newer version comes out, are we out of luck as far as having that old file? IN my case I don't have 2018.05

I am not sure of any way to download a previous version of Cakewalk by Bandlab except to contact support and ask them for it.

At this time, the install file that BA downloads is always called "cakewalk.exe", regardless of version.  Because of this, after you've copied the file to your E drive, just rename it to include version number.  For example the current one could be renamed to "cakewalk 2018.6 build 14"

I know it's a but late for the previous versions than the current ones, but at least you will have the install files for future versions.

Another option is to do a regular backup that includes the contents of the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core folder.  If a Cakewalk by Bandlab update borks something, simply restore this folder from a previous backup.

This is what I figured was going on. I'm glad I thought of this early on, since as of now I have everything except 2018.05, which I did install and I started getting more crashes so I reverted back to a previous image file of 2018.04.

For me stability is the most important thing, so I'd rather use the same version for about 3 or so months so I feel like I've seen every bug or crash that crops up in the way I use the program.

When I installed 2018.05 I forgot to save the cakewalk.exe file. Now I know better and will make sure every time I get a new update I'll let it download and when the install window comes up, I can then decide if I want to install right then or wait until later and save the file to my E drive.

Good idea about renaming the file to reflect the version, although I think I'll just be extra cautious and create a new folder for it for now.

Or just make a new folder for each version.

Yes that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm a little cautious about changing the name of cakewalk.exe  Just in case that would foul up the installation
