No. Because if they'd announced only the Mac thing, the forums would have lit up with people complaining "Oh, there won't be any more Windows development, SONAR is doomed, I don't like the Mac anyway, now all the resources will go to the Mac, blah blah uninformed blah." By emphasizing at the same time an extended commitment to doing MORE of the optimizations and fixes that have been happening in recent months, although it still didn't prevent those determined to be negative from being negative, those who think rationally and understand the concept of a "common code base" realize what's happening.
As to lifetime updates, it was first announced in May but with certain restrictions. When it become obvious people thought it was pretty cool to get updates for life for $99 or whatever, then it went out to a wider group of people starting June 1.
