• SONAR
  • Please let it be OS X. (p.2)

SONAR on OSX would expand the user base and respect Cakewalk deserves in the market one would hope.

By what? 5-10% maybe? And for that the Bakers must support two codebases?

Just get any cheap Windows laptop and use it as a dedicated DAW.

Consider this: every time the big fruit releases yet another 10.x update to its OS, tons of software doesn't work anymore. Hell, you can't even install the newest iTunes on their 5 year old version of OSX! This is a true nightmare for developers, and an incredible waste of resources, just to maintain compatibility. It always blows my mind how all the hardcore Mac users around here (Los Angeles, land of the idiot!) still keep regurgitating the nonsense that Mac "just works", right after having an almost laughable conversation amongst themselves about the craziest problems.

In contrast, I just upgraded my buddy's OLD Win7 PC to Win10. EVERYTHING worked: his old PCI Gina 3G, and even Sonar 5! That's software from 11 years ago, working flawlessly on the newest OS. I'm beyond glad that Cakewalk is focused on the best ecosystem out there for us users.....

Why OSX?
Windows (7, 8, 10) and SONAR is so stable that we are working over 14 days without reboot.
...

I hope you mean you haven't had to reboot because of a crash or hang, and not that you've kept your pc up for 14 days straight without rebooting.  The latter is definitely not advisable.

I already know SONAR is the best DAW (at lest for me). I don't need a Mac disciple to validate my DAW choice.

Just a little FYI for Mac people... The processors are identical, the rest of the guts are almost identical. Both PC's and Macs are using Intel processors, unless you put an AMD in on purpose. They are basically the same inside. The difference is the OS software.

Once you fire up your DAW, forget the OS. At that point you should not even be thinking about your OS, but rather your DAW.

Also one more thing. A "Mac" is a personal computer right? So it is a PC. It is just a PC that runs OSX on very expensive hardware (kind of like a dongle).

So we have PC's that run on OSX that require very specific and expensive configurations, and we have PC's that run Windows with almost limitless options for customizations on much more competitively priced hardware.

So I ask, "Why?" Why would any company waste resources to develop an already mature and well-working DAW for an expensive dongle with very little upside? The OSX disciples are already entrenched in the DAW they are using and not likely to switch.

Why such a fuss about OSX? It's just another OS. SONAR is on Windows. Lets just accept it and get on with production time.

f' apple.  I'm sticking with Cakewalk BECAUSE they diss that arrogant company!  ...  At the end of the day, CRApple has nothing on Windows.  In the beginning it was power to deal with video and audio.  Those days are gone!!!  Now what?  Virus protection?  Stay offline like I do.

At the care facility/ hospital were I work we have over 100 PC's. They rarely get shut off. I think once a month the IT crew remotely do a little updating.

My own DAW  (W8.1) is mostly off line and I find no reason right now to run Windows updates..
Sure if your inclined to use your DAW for everything under the sun that's different, but my point is working computer in real workplaces do not need all the stupid stuff they are always upgrading. So I see what our friend in post #4 is saying.. and he's doing nothing wrong at all.
My office computer is in sleep mode 24/7 months on end. I'll re boot it when it asks me too which is about once a week I guess. I'm lazy about that machine and just let Windows bully me around. My DAW computer has way less issues and I strongly believe it's because once I had it running smoothly,,, I will not change anything. And before I do, I make sure I can go back!

I've kept mine on for months at a time. It really doesn't do them any harm, especially with modern hardware.

And hope it works at low ASIO latencies, and hope if it doesn't you can access the necessary BIOS settings to get it to work as needed. Not to mention killing off all the unnecessary junk cheap laptops usually have pre-installed.

And you'll need something better than a cheap 5400rpm 2.5" internal drive, an i5 or, preferably, better cpu. And an ethernet port if you need to run it networked for any reason.

Cheap laptops can be very good general purpose computers. A DAW is not a "general purpose" computer. A uear or so ago one of the Cakewalk blog items said they use HP Z-books, not exactly cheap laptops.

I can configure a laptop I think would work with Sonar for not much more money than my sig PC. Still cheaper than my MacBook Pro of course.

Cakewalk Pro Audio/SONAR was my first sequencer.... Logic is great, but I'd certainly jump on a SONAR for Mac and/or SONAR Lite for iPad Pro.

This is true enough, but when you add in the cost of maintaining anything on OSX, it's a wonder anyone would ever.
