  • (Solved) VRM Box not seen by Sonar? (p.2)

Yanno I've seen some complaints regarding Focusrite drivers and Win10. Have they actually released Win10 drivers for the VRM box? Maybe that's what's going on (and maybe why Lynn's isn't working... his sig says Win7 though but maybe that's old).

I'm on Win7 Pro FWIW.

Actually... check this page out (scroll down)...

"VRM Box
Works with Windows 10? YES

Points of note : Although VRM box is not supported for use in Windows 10, it has been found to work."

Soooo... maybe that's an old entry (like MS broke something in an update). Shoot FR a support request?

Another thought.... VRM Box only goes up to 48k as a standalone interface. Maybe you are trying to monitor a higher samplerate project or there is another setting somewhere making Sonar not see it? That's a total shot in the dark though.

Actually, my VRM box works perfectly.  As I pointed out, I use SPD/F and the ASIO driver.  Once you get it sorted out, it's good tool for mixing.

p.s.- there's plenty of threads on the VRM here; just do a quick Google search.

Yeah I did Lynn, but nothing realyl covered the specific issue, and I got mostly (guesstimate 95%) of hits were all sale related sites haha!

Thanks Beep, yeah really good points you make - I am just on a work break, but I will check it out a bit later today,

..the VRM only has one installation app, (V 1.2) ..I will try a re-install and see if that does something.

V1.4 is the latest.  You should at the very least get that.

Like Lynn, mine works fine on spdif.  However, when trying to use it as the audio device in Sonar, I keep getting error messages saying it might already be in use. This could just be the ASIO protocol, as it works fine playing back outside of Sonar.

Where did you get that? The Focusrite site only lists 1.2??

EDIT: Scratch that - I jsut found it DUH!  I was relying on an old favourite cache link - which somehow did not link to the latest drivers. Thanks for the heads up JonD :-)

Yayyyy!! Success...this 1.4 update actually installed an ASIO driver and asked for the usual Windows confirmation. I just wnet to Sonar and it now appears as a vaild ASIO available device.

Thanks all for your help, much appreciated!!

You could try and disengage windows drivers for the same device - I've had that kind of conflict that Windows and daw tries to open same device.

Looking at VRM some years ago it was clear that no chip in box exist regarding processing audio - it's all done in windows cpu. So even spdif on box will send that audio up the usb, then drivers process and down again to box. So expect latency thereafter, enough for mixing but not for recording.

I've read that VRM box could add up to 20 ms additional latency. Since it is a mixing tool, I guess that isn't a problem in most cases.

But they have discontinued all VRM related products (even the Saffire 24 Pro DSP), so I was unable to buy a new one. The Saffire 24 Pro DSP actually does the processing on the interface so I was interested in getting that.

Instead I settled on the TB Isone VST plugin. But people that A/B'd both says VRM box is better than TB Isone. At least it doesn't add any additional latency and was only $20 IIRC, so there is that.
