1st I am in a small home studio and would rather not spend $150 for an atlas mic stand (15" triangular base looks amazing) I already have about 6 mic stands. 2 tripods w\ 12" legs and 4 semi quality round base mics. But still mic large diaphragm condenser mics just love to tip. Floor is carpet over terrazzo so drilling in floor is really not a feasible option. I am guessing I cannot drill thru the regular round cast iron bases. Not sure where I would go from there anyhow.
Any ideas guys and gals?

Put a 2 pound weight on the other side of the boom.

I don't understand?? Are you extending the boom without a counterweight on the other end? 
WIth tripod stand you have the issue of performers stepping on the leg if you put one under the boom, but the leg has to be under the boom or the stand can tip. So it's a matter of balancing the boom. The further out you go, the more counterweight you need. 
Sure a 40lb base will also work but it's easier to just put a counter weight that is say 3 Lbs on the end of the boom. Or shorten the boom. 

No, there is a generic what comes with counter weight..But just not enough for my large heavy mic...it's a Stellar CM-5..Great vocal mic but heavy.
OK -haven't had a chance yet but I found a perfect weight for it...C clamp and Velcro wrappers will hold it on.
Will work with it tomorrow..... I think it will be good. Probably better on the tripod than the round base.

Movie production crews use a lot of stands for various things (lights, reflectors, etc.) and use sand bags to hold down stands.  You might try that as well.

Here's a good one for audio applications. It holds up to 10 lbs. of sand or lead shot, but you don't need to add that much. Well made, and each side is double zippered, with the zippers running opposite directions so the sand doesn't leak!

Wanted to post back and say many thanks to all.....a small weight on the boom and the sandbags ( I live in Florida, sand is easy-free ) work GREAT!
