The first version of the tuners were really problematic. I believe the redesign to G force included changes to the tuner mechanism. Craig Anderton loves them so perhaps he will chime in.

I have locking Tuners on all my guitars...and always will...

That is all...

Me too...
String changes are super quick/easy.
Will have them even with FR style trems

I was wondering why so many UK retailers have been offering huge discounts - as much as 40%+ off - on various models from the 2015 Gibson range.

Personally much of the recent tweaks and changes to Gibson models have pretty much meant they're not very attractive to me. Nothing to do with self-tuning, but character-changing stuff like SGs with fat necks and big frets, Firebirds with over-powerful pickups and the sheer ugliness of much of the newer models in the current ES semi range. There seems to be an attitude of constant chop and change and a ridiculously confusing number of variations on the same design spread over a huge price range while a "like for like" replacement of a guitar a few years old simply isn't possible because they're not made like that any more.

If something happened to my 1990s P100 equipped ES135 for example, there's nothing in the current Gibson range I'd consider as a replacement. Come to that I can't even replace the pickups with OEM ones.

To be fair, Fender suffer from a similar problem as do Martin and Taylor.

THIS is the main reason...I, personally, hated changing strings...not that I couldn't do it...
but that it was time consuming...now it's just detune, unlock, change, lock, clip, tune, done...

This is a TREMENDOUS time saver when breaking a string on stage...wham bam done...
and the fact that they just don't go out of tune as easily as "wrapped" strings...
If your guitar doesn't have them...I highly recommend them...they're priceless IMO...

I agree that locking tuners are great.  It amazes me to see so many guitars selling for north of $1000 without them.  The manufactures are themselves "out of tune" with their market.

MusicMan puts locking tuners on their inexpensive (import) "Sterling by MusicMan" guitars.
Should be standard on any decent guitar...

Necks, or at least the feel for me, on Gibson's feel like a "2X4".  I was in Nashville several years ago, when Gibson had the store and production facility in the Opry Mills shopping center.  They had a room with a bunch of LP's on a special sale.  Most of them had wild paint jobs and probably didn't sell and why they were selling them at the discounted price.  All of them I tried sounded great but seemed like the "2X4" neck, to me.

In Gibson's defense I've played Chet Atkins Gretsch's for a long time (had a new 1961 PX6120) and also have a Fender Telecaster.

Les Paul 60's neck feels pretty good to me.
Don't care for the 50's... which is more "baseball bat"

I like those.  I like the PRS wide fat necks but that's an expensive neck outside the SE line.
