Reading this series of posts confirms to me why i hardly ever post anything....why can't someone just discuss something rather than immediately assume that the poster is "anti" (heaven forbid) cakewalk? The original post was exactly what i was thinking and while some of the posts that follow are interesting so many of them slam the person with the original post.  I am going to get off my computer now because some of you will probably conclude i'm a commie who wants cakewalk to die or some other asinine conclusion.

I certainly didn't have a problem with the first post, but then again, I read it all the way through to the end instead of stopping with "they can't." Some of the other comments here have been pretty off the wall, though, like the ones along the lines of "Cakewalk will just change the name and say that technically it's not Platinum any more, so they won't have to keep their promise." I feel bad for people whose life experience has led them to believe that everyone is out to screw them, but I can understand why some people feel that way.

I can assure everyone that SONAR is the highest priority at Cakewalk.

(Just a quick question from a newbie, I've looked everywhere but I can't seem to find the answer)

Assuming one doesn't take advantage of the lifetime upgrade to Platinum, what is the alternative membership plan going forward?

Will we still be able to renew every year as now, or will there only be lifetime upgrades in future.

Apologies for the newbie question, but I'm not absolutely sure I understand the whole business model.

I believe that is what is going to be explained in the big announcement on June 1st Andy.

I believe it's been stated that the original annual/monthly plan will still be in existence, so don't worry!

Here's my prediction: The June 1st announcement is going to be that they are consolidating all the various flavors of SONAR into one. No more Platinum or Professional. All future premium features we would have enjoyed in the past as Platinum/Producer users will now be available ala carte. So in effect, what we are receiving with the lifetime subscription is SONAR Artist forever on top of the Producer features we already own. That's not a criticism as it's still a pretty amazing deal and much appreciated.

indeed, i suspect that dan's the winner - check out the steam store pages: professional and platinum editions are delivered as DLC for the steam edition http://store.steampowered.com/app/443205/

As the acting Steam LiveOps and Community Manager, I wouldn't look at the Steam offerings for a clear indicator of what our direct products will be.

There's actually a simple technical reason why we offer Professional and Platinum as DLC's. If we were to offer each product as a standalone library item, it would fracture our community into 3 different groups. Now since Pro/Plt are DLC, all our SONAR Steam users have one place to congregate.

I reread the whole thread and I think you're seeing what you want or expect to see.  If there was any negative blowback, it wasn't provoked by the OP's post, but by another poster (I'll let you find it yourself).  The original poster made some interesting points, which lead to others, and a pretty good discussion (Although at this point, all we can do is speculate, so maybe calling it a "discussion" is stretching it a bit).

And yes, there is some fanboing, but there will always be that.  Again, reread the thread and you'll see many valid points were made without any "bullying" in response.  One or two of the more provocative comments got some push back, but then again, I defy you to go to any product forum, throw around some insults, and see how well they're received.

Actually, I was thinking just the opposite. There will be a Sonar Lite version targeted at educational market possibly tied to another product ( maybe some hardware).
