Since the rewind went well with the old plastic bobbin Fender
Strat pups I ordered some kits.

It took some time to make a few things needed.
I made the block on left to hold the magnets in place and in relation
to the bottom flatplate of the bobbin.
After they are pressed in the alignment block is removed and the
the little wooden spacer ( marked 11m ) is held in placed on either
side of the magnets with a rubber band. I reworked a bolt to put in my
fret press to press the magnets.
I start the top plate on with the press and after all are started I use
the acrylic tool I made to work the plate down to the spacers- assures
I have an 11mm space.

Now I'm waiting on some black super glue. I'll wick a little on
each magnet, each plate on the "inside".
Then I'll soak it in lacquer as the vintage pups were done.
It will then be ready to wire. I'll be wrapping the magnets with
Kaptan tape before winding...not required but good thing to do
to help prevent shorting the pup.

Went very smooth. The only issue was a couple of holes in the
maple alignment block were to snug. I'll fix that.

There's been a lot of little things to do for getting set-up and more
yet to come but it's been fun and not as hard as some may think.
That is mainly because of the internet. Hasn't been bad getting the
info and have met some cool people that are very serious about winding.

So far I'm about two hundred dollars over the cost of the cheapest winder
sold. (400)  Everything that I know of has been purchased to take it from
kits to the guitar.
I've already gained two pups that were trashed so a return of @ 150.00
and now my first one started from the ground up.

Feelin' good about it....wasn't sure about dishing out the money in the beginning- not
knowing if it would even work...BUT...I still haven't heard one yet LOL. Still
waiting on the potting works and that has turned out to be the biggest hassle
of it so far.

Sorry for the long wind...hope ya enjoy the info anyway.

Sorry, but you can tell right away that it won't sound right.  I mean, look at those colors on top of the pole pieces!  How can you get good tone from those???

(Just kidding of course, it looks like you're well on your way!  Next up, stacked singles?  Humbuckers?)

J I'm glad you're enjoying this. No doubt I'm anxious
to hear the results.

Craig I wanted to see how things went for the Fender pups
before making others that I really don't have the guitars to
install them in.
I'm sure giving thought to building a guitar and putting a P-90
in it.

Oldd55 a PU winder recommended that I extend the wire on
the first one I rewound. I just didn't put enough wraps on it.
It's a technic that I need to learn anyway.
When I complete that and get them potted I'll be recording the
results for us to hear.

I thought I'd show the tool I made to push the top plate over
the magnets.
I also started on the bridge Tele pup.

The brass plated steel plate was held in place
by the magnets and the wax from potting but
I've read that putting a little silicone around the
bottom of the magnets and then attaching the
plate is additional help in preventing microphonics.

I'll be wrapping the Tele bridge like the vintage and
will be tapping the Strat pups I make.
The two rewinds are really just the learning pups to me.
The three Strat and two Tele pups I build and wind are
my main interests as they will be the results of the process
from the ground up.

I've spent a great deal of time trying to change the counter set-up.
I'm currently using a magnetic reed switch triggering the counter.
It stops counting @890 rpm's so I've been talking with some folks
that know about that kind of stuff- and now trying to see if a Hall Effect sensor
can be used or better yet, if I can put together a circuit with one that
will assure me of 100% count accuracy...accuracy of wraps is paramount.
I believe the count to be accurate with what I'm doing but it is limiting how
fast I can wind.
I would like to at least get to 2000 rpm's and accurate count. I know that
it can be done with IR proximity or the Hall Effect sensor...it's just figuring out
how.

Well this is as far as I can go. I'll be glad when
I have all the material and stock on the shelves.
Almost there.
When I charge the magnets I'll show how and the
tools I'll be using to do it and to check the gauss.
