I don't mind that CW is adding more user options, but I do agree that there is a time when you have to call in the professionals. A bit like album cover design - you can DIY and get by or you get the experts in. At some point you have to realise that appearances are actually 90% of the job, ESPECIALLY if you are looking to gain new market share.
I do get a bit of DIY from both CW UIs. Not trying to offend anyone - just making an observation. It lacks aesthetic refinement.

It would be awesome if they made it possible to make your own themes, that you can share with others. I'm a programmer and work in Visual Studio, you can download all sorts of themes that other people made from a website dedicated just for that, some of them really good.

What makes you think this is DIY? The theme is designed from the ground up by a highly reputed designer in the industry who does UI for multiple plugins and DAW's. He knows what hes doing. We evaluated several designs and this was the one we picked. Most people like it a lot and it works well for long term use without eye fatigue. There will always be opinions about anything related to color since tastes (and eyesight) varies drastically. Once we have the theme editor out I think people will realize just how complex it is to build a color coordinated theme :)

I'm no scientist, but I do know that generally speaking darker themes tend to be preferred by many who spends hours at a time in front of a computer screen. The Adobe suite immediately comes to mind.

Ultimately it's a matter of preference, of course. I personally think PT is an ugly interface. Studio One and SONAR, to me, look pretty sharp. (That includes the Mercury theme as well...that has never bothered me.)

While we're waiting ... the overall brightness CAN be adjusted some.  Choose your theme, then try these settings:

It lacks aesthetic refinement.

I wouldn't say that. It's definitely designed aesthetically. The console view for example is the best. No other daw's console view comes close. Logic is close. The inspector, matrix view, the new quick start are all designed to perfection. The piano roll is also great. Might need some finishing touch. The control bar is greatly workflow friendly. They could have gone with more small buttons to get better appearance. But the current one is good and workflow friendly as well. The track view and few other things needed some finishing touch. Tungsten brings in new variations. Basically s1 is designed with great attention on the interface but everything kind of looks binary. Nevertheless its designed with great attention. Sonar just needs little more attention and finishing touch. But nothing much to complain. I'm sure PT is gonna continue with that uninspiring interface for 50 more years. Cubase will comeup with more toying mixing interfaces. Bakers are doing good job. I guess many will be happy If they soon comeup with a light theme as well. I believe the grid will look better with light colours.
