But you said she's freaking out at noon so as I said tell her get lost. Let her call the cops. They'll likely tell her to stop harassing you and wasting their time.

OP says 12:20am.  Joking aside, it can be a pretty serious affair to disturb a neighbor with noise after a certain time. I think it's 10pm in NYC. After which, if you're making a noise, your neighbor might be keeping a noise diary. I think if you continue to make noise after you've gotten a warning, they can ultimately confiscate your equipment.

I just wish noise insulation was more of a priority when constructing buildings. I was in a relatively new apartment building recently and you could hear everything from next door through the air vents. Conversations, TV dialog, everything. If I was in the market for a new condo, I would jump at a building that advertised soundproofing as a feature. There are certain buildings in NYC that are renowned for their soundproofing and musicians flock to them, for example the Armory on 42nd st. I really need to get me a place like that.

Maybe if you had an Alembic.

Oops. You're right, sharke. Not enough caffeine. Linear, dude... I like ya but cranking things up that late isn't cool. I used to have full volume practices in my place and never had a problem because I kept things friendly with my neighbors and shut down at a reasonable hour. Never had a complaint and never had the cops come... and it was full on screecher metal. I agree with sharke that buildings are very poorly insulated. It's a real problem but it's the way it is. Unless you have the cash for a decent soundproofed unit it's best to toss on the headphones at a certain time at night because the cops WILL come and they WILL shut you down if they get enough complaints. You really don't want to be on that side of the fence. Food for thought. Cheers.

When my neighbor does that, I don't bother banging on his door, I just call the cops and let them deal with it. He's really pissed now because he doesn't know who called them ! hahahaha !!!!

nice and quiet now !!

I've recently discovered that there are so many non-musical ways to disturb your neighbor. Mine is this 20 year old d-bag who makes a point of digging in with his toes when he's walking up the stairs, so that his sneakers make a squeaking noise with each step. You can hear it 5 flights down and all the way up. He also slams his door when he comes and goes. The kid sells weed, not very discretely, and so he has people coming and going all the time. He has to let them in the building because the buzzer is broken, so it's up and down the stairs all night with that infernal squeaking, then everyone is slamming the door as they're entering or leaving. Sometimes they wake me up at 4am because they're rapping to each other - badly - and stomping their feet to keep rhythm.

Oh and now he's gotten himself a little pit bull puppy that yaps for 15 minutes whenever he leaves.

I hate him.

I like the logic.. its past midnight, someone may need to get up at 5am or 6am, you are making way to much noise, you wake them up (or keep them awake)... and the conclusion is "they dont like bass"?

It shows in the way she attacks my door at like 12:20 am. What is wrong with this crazy person that she knocks like that? Screaming like a maniac, "turn that down."

Walk up to her and tell her that if you make it big that you promise her a check for 10k dollars.

She will never say anything again about the music ... and what the heck, if you can make a million, you can afford a few peanuts anyway!

Watch her shut up quick! It works better than Lotto tickets!

@sharke... Yeah, that sucks. I have a VERY hard time sleeping at the best of times and the tiniest little noise will wake me up and then my mind starts racing so I can't get back to sleep for like 20 minutes if at all. I went completely gung ho with soundproofing in this room and it helps a LOT but if someone is directly above me I hear every footstep. It is extremely frustrating and messes me up way worse than most people due to my poor health. Fortunately I have no where to be in the mornings so I just stay in bed a little longer but if I still had to work I'd be destroyed. I really hope my next place is built properly.

Actually, Moshkiae back in the day I was fully prepared to bribe any neighbors who were getting upset. Fortunately no one ever did because I tried to be respectful.
