I mean come on everybody knows the difference in composing ability when you're straight versus stoned.
Like Bil Maher once said: "I'd never recommend heroin to anybody but it didn't hurt my record collection..."

 

I think we should charge Eric Clapton and take him all Grammys awards plus ban him for life from playing live.

I think a few have been charged.  Usually, they're not allowed back into the country where the offense occurred.  It starts to make for very small world tours after a while.

I used to smoke and to be honest, I could play a pretty mean bebop guitar when stoned, but for me the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages and I quit. Life is just way better without intoxicants IMO.

I would argue that the moral equivalent to steroids and doping (by athletes) among musicians in the field of music would be Autotuning.
