To be honest Steve I had not noticed any offencive use of the English language by an English man.

I wonder why the 'several forum users' didn't just drop you a PM and ask you not to use the word. Bit heavy handed really.

I wonder...

If the people that reported you Steve realize
that what they did or more specifically how they
handled it is much much lower than you using
a questionable word.

I was pissed when I read and posted last night...good thing I deleted it.

Today I'm wondering what's up with the world...it seems so F'ng crazy - just
like people thinking that little *'s work and that peoples minds just go blank
when those little asterics are used or that it protects the young readers.
I have news for them...those young ones probably can't read 3-4 different
languages but I bet they can tell people to go get ****ed in at least three.
Did the *'s make everything alright?
I'd also rather have my kid know what that word meant in another culture
so when they heard it they could inform the other kids that where giggling and
caring on about the grump that said a "bad" word.

I have read insinuations here that were much worse than a questionable word.
But I reckon that those that reported you for one word don't realize a lot of things.

Personally I think they can go **** themselves and if their mind went blank seeing
those little *'s then they can go get one of their kids to tell them in a language
they can understand.

They should apologize to you Steve.

Good post Michael.

I get really tired of how easily people are 'offended' these days, or how they feel they should be 'offended' on behalf of someone else.

been transplanted to the USA for 20 yrs now,  and i am still suprised on a regular basis at the intellectually challenged and unaware rectum cavities who take umbrage at singular written words and extract them from the context of the conversation.

The t word isn't that bad... the c word gets some people really twisted out of joint though, especially women (understandably) ... but I thought it was even worse in the UK? I was warned very clearly before I went to avoid using it lest I wanted to get glassed. They also said not to use "b*gger" either and that the f-word had a lot more power than it does here. Strange stuff.

Swearing is basically mainstream in the UK. I've heard "bugger" on kid's TV. Also "sod," which is derived from "sodomy." The f-word? Pffft....Sometime in the early 90's I was dragged along to a big wrestling event at the Wembley Arena in London. The place was full of parents with their kids. And the parents were screaming at each other before the show started: "Shat the fack ap! Sit daaaan! Move your facking head! Ooo's that facker over there fink he is? Oy! You! Facker! Tell your kids to shat the fack up! No! YOU shat the **** ap you facking areshole!" I think I heard more f-words in that 15 minutes than I have in total ever since.

Oof... English wrestling fans? That sounds frightening. I cuss like a sailor but fortunately have a good filter for when I'm in mixed company. I try to avoid swearing whenever I'm in an unfamiliar environment. You never know who's gonna pop a gasket.

I too am surprised that not just one member but "several" alerted the Mod Squad.

I could understand if one of our lovely lady members maybe were a little offended. But our lady members know the CH group well enough that they'd either PM Steve with a 'Now now Strummy, that wasn't very nice' or most likely just post it right there in the thread.

This whole ordeal is just Monkey Arse!

Mike

PS. As usual Steve, you've proven yourself quite the gentleman in the way you've handled the situation. Cheers.
