I'm getting another laptop solely for music production.  Anyone have any tips for a painless migration from one laptop to another?

What is your IT skill set?

I did this recently, and it was great.
I just logged in to Sonar (and other SW vendors that I use in my DAW), and downloaded the files from my account.
Then, i disconnected it from the internet and removed every application that I didn't want.  Including anti-virus, the last thing i want is to have that bog down my system during a great take.

Very knowledgeable. The sight of command prompts and registries don't bother me.
Mostly just wondering if there were any shortcuts to the transfer that might be unique to SONAR, to make things easier/quicker.

Thanks Slugbaby.  As for all my SONAR settings, is it a simple matter of moving the contents of the Program folder over to the new laptop?

Download & install CCC

Run everything from there.

I would NOT copy entries from your old Program folder to the new laptop.

If you've been storing plugin presets to the drop-down list in the upper left corner of the plugin window, make sure you export/import those presets via Plugin Manager.

Okay, followed above suggestions, everything looked good until I launched SONAR for the first time on the new laptop.  That's when it crashes and I get en error: "System_Thread_Exception_Not_Handled RTKVHD64.sys", and then the laptop rebooted automatically after a few seconds.

And idea how to fix that?

im guessing windows update.
make sure you have all the windows updates done before using sonar.
could be your onboard audio card is too blame

disable it and use your audio interface.
the "RTKVHD64.sys" is short for Realtek Video HD.
which I believe is the audio/video sound.
