  • Why don't some shortcuts show up in preferences - keyboard shortcuts? (p.2)

I rarely use nudge (I do everything like that by hand/with snap).

My point is Nudge does a ton of different things. It is context sensitive. It's kind of like wanting to expose and change all the things the Smart Tool does. People have actually asked for that but it just does too many things to make it feasible to allow such specific access to.

If you can change the Nudge bindings the action would likely change ALL the nudge actions. You are focusing on only one thing that nudge does. Even then you are ignoring the other nudge buttons that (I think... and I assume we are talking about MIDI notes) moves notes up a semitone at a time or left and right in increments.

Nudge is very complex and has it's own little set of Preferences that can be twiddled with by the user.

PS: Look at the image icontakt posted again. Notice the "Settings" option in that menu? Click on that and I believe a dialog pops up where you can screw around with what Nudge (and it's bindings) does in various scenarios.

Cheers.

Being context sensitive doesn't really matter. The shortcuts need to be documented :) A list with the area eg. PVR, followed by what the shortcut does. It's not complicated.

I'm not ignoring the other nudge button at all. In fact, their shortcuts are listed and assigned in the shortcut editor. Why not list the 2 I mentioned (ctrl+numpad8 and ctrl+numpad2)?

I didnt realise there would be controversy over something so straight forward :)

Yes I know about this too :) There is nothing about the CTRL shortcuts in there either

No controversy here. Just trying to point out the nature of the Nudge stuff. It's all more or less documented but IIRC from my manual perusing it's more task specific.

Also Nudge is OLD and I'm guessing a lot of the entries about it haven't been updated as much as other sections of the manual.

The Ref Guide is... well... a bit of a chaotic beast.

I'm so sorry for not properly reading the original post...

FWIW, it's not just Ctrl+Num2/8 that aren't listed in the manual or Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts page. For example, there are some default keyboard shortcuts in PRV that aren't documented anywhere. When the Help module was introduced, I noticed that keyboard shortcuts appear in the module when the mouse cursor was hovered over the items in the PRV menus. I first thought they were default keybindings, but no, they were all what I bound myself. Anyway, even the Help module isn't helpful when it comes to Ctrl+Num2/8. I think the Bakers should list all default keyboard shortcuts in both the manual and Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts page, and also add Ctrl+Num2/8 to the Process menu. But my guess is that CW is too busy (understaffed?)

Hey no problem icontakt :) Thanks for reminding me about the help module too.

I accidentally hit ctrl+numpad8 while doing some midi note editing and noticed it nudged up 1 octave. I also discovered ctrl+numpad2 nudges down 1 octave. These are super useful shortcuts and I don't see them documented anywhere.

When I opened preferences - keyboard shortcuts, they don't show up there either. Is there a reason for this?

Well spotted Funk! That is a handy shortcut.
