For me, number one example with nothing else even close close would be Radiohead (first album Pablo Honey, everything since good to superb). I read somewhere that Thom Yorke would like to disown that first effort.
A reasonable alternative would be Muse (first album Showbiz, second Orgins of Symmetry, then a string of very, very solid offerings).
Agreed about Radiohead, though I did loose interest after Amnesiac.
Took me forever to take Muse seriously after I first heard them - whatever that first song was, it made me think of them as a Radiohead rip off.
Took my wife to turn me onto them - the last few albums were totally brilliant. I
still have issues w/ the way the vocal is mixed. Constantly sounds over-the-top. But he is a brilliant rock singer. Saw them live in 2010 and they blew me away.
