I was learning to play the guitar at 9 or 10.. like most schools teach you.. c'mon how many of us would learn the recorder if we weren't forced to . Didn't stick with the guitar...

was involved with the demo scene and messed about with trackers on the amiga (octomed)

got to know a producer at hhm 17... and he said oh if you know how to use a computer.. samplers would be easy for you..

so got into music since that, slowly and surely was doing less with computers (programming wise) and due to the link with both, helped me do what I wanted to do..

as for music choosing me, was more of the location... all the pioneers of the genre I got into, well were within 5-10 minutes drive of me. I was in the right time at the right place.

I have learned more about music I'd never have been exposed to (via sampling) and a lot more about music theory, while some of my friends know far more about music, but have had to learn the computer side of it.

I like making things, but don't overly like the mixing side of it (but alas thats part of it).. I always will I guess as time's gone on that has become more important with music since we have far better access to mastering tools etc. (or pre-mastering as some would say)

My dad chose it for me. Enrolled me private lessons in 1962-3 I was 7 and some months.
At 13 in my first rock band I realized l wanted it. At 15 was gigging every weekend at nightclubs. Band thing lasted 'till end of '85 and I quit. (fried)
Started playing again 2004 to try learn computers and recording with one. (my membership date shows when I started reading 'round these parts...think it was 07 when I posted my first PC tune here) Hard to believe an almost 20 year break...sheesh this post makes me feel old.
I remember back that I refused to learn Jimi tunes and the bands were always mad about that. I always felt nobody could do it like him. And haven't played one of his tunes to date. Love to listen to him though.

Last weekend I played:

Stone Free
Hey Joe
Little Wing

All for fun. As you say, couldn't do em better if I was paid to.

And would enjoy hearing you play them...I just can't bring myself to do it...know I could...just a quirk I have.

I started out earning a bit of money from playing at 15/16 and figured it was better to do that than any of the alternatives on offer, so I played some more and just kept on doing it, more out of fear of doing anything else rather than having any ambitions or aspirations of becoming a 'musician' really.

So I 'spose I chose it, but it let me join in.
