Hey out there!!

Could somebody please advise.  When I use the Draw tool to write a note into the MIDI editor, sometimes I just want a short duration note, but I get a note that stretches out several bars.  Then I have to go out there into the far reaches of the song to shorten it with the smart tool.   I know in this great DAW we use that there is a way to adjust that.  How 'bout it?

Thanks!

If I am understanding correctly, Just draw it in, click and drag, whatever length you draw, the next note you add by clicking will be the same length, if you change the length of that note, the next note you add by clicking will be that length and so on. (Smart Tool)

Or change the 'note draw duration' in the drop down where you select the draw tool.

What I do if I accidentally place a really long note is this.  With the smart tool selected and the ALT key pressed, hover over the point where you intended the note length to be. The cursor becomes scissors.  When you click the mouse button, the note splits into two notes.  Then I simply delete the remain note to the right.

Others may have an easier way.

Note, since the most recent Cakewalk by Bandlab update, you can simply undo.  Click on the desired length icon at the top of the PRV or Staff view window and redraw.

Matron-Doesn't always work that way for me.  If the note draws long, and after I go to all the trouble to drag it to the length I want it with the smart tool, the nest will once again write long.  Sometimes they write short when I want them long.  But I figured there was a way to adjust this.  Thanks promidi.  I'll try your suggestions

Thanks, promidi!  You educated me on what those little notes were over the PRV.  Also the scissor trick worked too.

Use the Value control drop-down menu and turn off "Last touched".

Yes, you can set the tool to draw any value or use last touched. I always set it for a 16th note then I'll drag it out as needed. You can also set the snap to grid.

Highlight the note and use the even manager to correct its length?.

Have you also noted that we now have note length gadgets in the menu bar of both staff and PRV?

I have the same issue with the first note. once I shorten the multi bar note, CxB seems to know I like smaller notes and does that no more as if a note duration default value is set real long at the first.

This implies you've got "last touched" switched on
