For instance.. I have a volume or pan envelope drawn on a clip... but I'd like to disable it without deleting, so I can hear what it sounded like [again] without the envelope.

HI:)

If you do a Track Envelope instead of Clip Envelope, you can enable or disable the Read Automation Function.
For Clips I don't know how to, but you can just duplicate the track and then delete the envelope on the copied track.
Or delete it on the Original Clip and just press Ctrl-Z for Undoing the deletion after listening without!

Hope it helps:)
Bassman.

That's actually a great feature request. I'd use it. In general I'd like some envelope enhancements like envelope linking, easier duplication, more customizable curves/slopes. But muting an envelope is a really nice idea for when you're using it for a specific effect.

You can always assign it to something irrelevant, like a send to a muted bus or something similar, which would retain the envelope not do anything, and then switch it back if you want to. Not quite as quick as a dedicated mute envelope function, but functional if you don't trust the delete-and-undo method outlined above, and if simply disabling automation reading for the whole track is not an option...

If you want to "mute" a track envelope (not clip envelope), enable "Automation Lanes" and uncheck Automation Read on that Lane only.

Right, and there's that... which is pretty much exactly what's wanted, except that it can't be used for clip envelopes. Too bad!
