That's cool Mike. I enjoy sharing my endeavors
and glad there's interest for others.

To use the laser it requires a piece of reflective
tape on the shaft and it needs a black background
so I'm waiting for the paint to dry.
Should be able to test it soon and if it works I'll
make a short video.
I sure hope it does...I'm out of ideas...er cheap ideas.

The Maillard Reaction
Is there an option that is easy, if not costly?

I was thinking there must be some optical device that is made just for it.

Maybe that's what you're already speaking about?

Spacey, did you try to increase the buffer size for the mouse? Back in the DOS days I remember that you could overflow keyboard and mouse input. There was a buffer setting and everything. I suspect it's as easy as doing a tune up on a modern car, once you identify the engine.

Called my buddy that makes pickups and he tells me his winder has a mechanical counter like something off an old bicycle. I was very surprised.

Mike the optical device is the laser rpm/tach device...it's very cool
and would be great for setting idling speed or such on equipment/motors
and I can use it to varify a counter if I get one that works...
I just finished checking it and it's doing it's thing fine...but it just tells
me how fast it's spinning.

No John I didn't. I didn't think of that. Mechanical may be were I wind-up. lol

I just ordered a Red Lion digital counter- 6 digits. Since I have the magnet
in place and it's so easy to mount the magnetic reed switch I'm going to give
that a try. About a $50.00 dollar shot

I've been surfing a lot trying to find the best way out of my mess and man folks
sure don' t like that winder StuMac sells. 400 dollars of junk I guess. It also seems
that they don't have the problems I have either. I even found a guy that said he
used the mouse/PC/calculator...I'm going to see if he'll tell me how to make it work.

What a trip it's been. All the BS and I think if I get it counting it'll be time to replace
those little bearings LOL.

So it's- check on the mouse and wait for the lion.
