The Maillard Reaction

When was the last time you listened to the first 2 albums?

I practiced some bass along to the records yesterday and I was astounded at how well they stood the test of time.

The sound quality, which comes directly from the arrangements, seems incredible and I found that it was hard to place the music as "early 1970's".

The tone seems timeless. Yikes.

Good times.

Anyways...

edit to spell the title better

Not long ago at all.
I have all their original release LP's including the different Street Survivor
covers....and all in mint. I'd listen while recording them so most have never
had the needle but once.
Probably played every hit they had in bands at one time or another.

Audio Fidelity released Second Helping. Sounded very good to me.

I've always like LS and were a big influence on me when I first picked up an electric. Their sound/tone was really good whether live or in the studio.
Thanks Mike for the reminder, I'll put them on my playlist for today.

it's been a long time.  Back in the day, I thought they were OK..some of the stuff they played I didn't like very much.... but yeah, they have some classic songs for sure.

Playing Free Bird in a cover band... I grew to hate that song.... I turn the channel on the radio to this day when it comes on..... no fault of the song..... sometimes we'd get a request to play that song 4 times a night.....once in every set.  (playing in a military base night club which we did a lot of)

I was actually more partial to the other bands of that era.  Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, The Outlaws.... all great bands and certainly part of my musical heritage...Including Skynard.

Hi,

Never!

Really, these days the only first 2 albums worth while listening to for me, are from Led Zeppelin! Maybe Ange or PFM, and Banco. Even PF's first 2 ... sound sad these days and not as optimistic as I would like. I find ADomine and IOverdrive the only two things that are really positive.

LZ for me ... specially on the boots!

:-)

Dropping a bump to set the correct spelling in the title.

Gets me every time.

Same here Herb....because of LS, I also got into the same types of bands...especially Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Fog Hat.....
Free Bird's got to be up there (cover wise) with Smoke on the Water, Stairway to Heaven, Hotel Cali. etc...

I like classic rock.

Thanks for the gentle hint Spacey.

I'm listening to Street Survivors now and reading about Steve Gaines.

I remember the morning we heard the news that the plane crashed... I never realized it was Mr. Gaines' first album with the band.

What a legacy; to have put that all down on tape for one record... wow.

best,
mike

You're welcome Mike. I knew you'd pick it up.

Man I'm so glad I was growing up during those years.
So many things were being done for the first time.

Sure they sparked a lot of other southern rock groups...
but who was the second guy to step foot on the moon...or the third..etc...lol.
