I think I'll run with your start and make a new thread about bands whose first two albums are great (so many can't seem to follow-up their first with anything decent!).

Can't believe this one wasn't mentioned earlier.

I have had a good lanyard form time to time.

You know, the kind that doesn't get all twistied up where all you see is the back of the name tag.

Always thought Freebird wasn't really worthy of them, they were so much better on the shorter, riffy songs. 'Second Helping' is a great album, I learned a few of those tunes just for fun. 'Gimme Back my Bullets' is a good one too.

Curtis Lowe and Simple Man were 2 of my favorite Skinny Lenard songs.... Call me the Breeze was a rocker too.

I did like their attitude.

Love LS here...was one of my reasons to play guitar. As for Freebird...I can't stomach it unless they play the live version. I will never change the station on that....absolutely love it.

Funny story...my first show in the UK as an original artist. I thought for sure the yells for "freebird" would be gone finally. But low and behold...even in the UK they yelled for it! So I said "you can have all the free bird you want in the men's bathroom" to which everyone started cracking up...and because I sort of planned for this....we went into a medley of my originals that were all in the key of G and we threw in a little of the Freebird solo section for good measure. :)

I dig all their stuff but my heart belongs to "One more for/from the Road" as to me, it just cries Skynyrd in all areas and captures what they were about live. :) I always loved their production and tones as well.

I lived in Alabama when the first two LS albums came out.  They got such heavy rotation that I can no longer listen to any of their music.

Then again, I have the same issue with Led Zep, particularly SWTH.  It got way too much air time.

I prefer to go back and listen to Careful with that Axe Eugene, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, Lucifer Sam, You never blow yr trip forever, ... or if I am stuck in the 70s, Little Feat, Caravan, Camel, ...

Bob Burns lives about a mile from here. Burnt out, but alive and well. Both albums are really very good. Molly Hatchet put out a couple of good tight albums too. Skynyrd REALLY put in a LOT of woodshedding to get there. Lots of talent and hard work and the timing was perfect.

They do stand up very well.
