  • Fast Track Switching in Piano Roll?

For years I've been using the mouse to change the track that I'm editing in Piano Roll, either by going to the toolbar button or the track pane.

That's real time-consuming.

Is there any way I can assign a shortcut key to a specific track in Piano Roll?

For example, the number "1" could take me to track #1 in Piano Roll; "2" for track #2, etc.

I display many different midi tracks at the same time in the PRV and select the one I want to edit from the Track Pane at the right.

Or open multiple PRVs in the multidock and use CTRL+SHIFT+arrow keys to scroll through them.

Yup.  Been there.   Done that.  But I want a SINGLE KEY shortcut....

Keyboard Number "1" = "Track 1"
Keyboard Number "2" = "Track 2"

OR....

Keyboard letter "A" = "Track 1"
Keyboard letter "B" = "Track 2"

etc...

In other words,  assignable SINGLE key shortcuts for each track

Or display all midi tracks in the PRV (and lock the contents by right-clicking on the tab at the bottom and selecting "Lock Contents") and then hit ALT+H to hide all tracks, then click the empty PRV and click the track you want to edit from the pop-up track list.

Yes, but unfortunately that's not possible in SONAR (possible in some other DAWs?)
I suggest you post a feature request in the Feature & Idea forum. I might vote.

Or do what I said and just click the number of the track you want to edit.

It doesn't get any simpler than that.

I'll put in a suggestion.   Mouse clicking, for track selection, is simple, but not as fast (for me at least) as assigning a shortcut key.

So the "real time-consuming" part was an overstatement? I thought you found it time-consuming because you wanted to display just the track you wanted to edit (using the Track pane for that purpose is indeed time-consuming, when you have many tracks).

I'm thinking maybe you only have 10 or less MIDI tracks in a project. For example, it would be difficult (at least for me) to remember which single key I should press when I want to edit the 17th MIDI track.

Not to mention this could clash with existing global single key shortcuts and require a new scheme for associating a specific keystroke to a specific track from dynamic list of tracks.
