  • Setting up Transport Control for NI S88 keyboard in Sonar

Hi. I've just got this keyboard and am trying to get transport protocols to work. Apparently you have to select MCU and I've tried the 3 in there with no luck - Mackie Control C4, Mackie Control XT and Mackie Control. I'm also a little uncertain about which input driver to select: eg, Komplete Kontrol - 1, KK EXT - 1 and KK DAW - 1...the latter which seems logical to select. Output? Does it need to go back to S88 or only if I'm routing to another controller?

Thanks

I would say "Mackie Control" is the one. Any MCU type control surface I tried worked off this one (to whatever extent they implemented MC in the hardware similar to what Sonar implemented ... which means you don't know what you get upfront until you try).

Try each of your inputs until you get a response. You will need to route back if you want feedback (e.g. a play LED indicating playback is now running)

okay thanks...I've tried all of the mackie examples but I just continue to get ' connecting' and it doesn't seem to go anywhere. So route back using Kontrol midi?

Thanks

The documentation is incorrect. The solution is in the first post of this thread you need to set up as a V-100.

In this thread I have put all my tips for using the NI keyboards.

Thanks so much Glyn...that did the trick. I can't believe that NI has updated this? I am really disappointed as well, that Sonar is not better represented when using this keyboard. Why Ableton Live 9.1.4, Cubase 7.5.1, Nuendo 6.0.7, Logic X 10.0.7, get 'advanced functionality' over Sonar irks me to no end. Such a big company, you'd think they'd go the 'extra mile' for a platform as popular as Sonar. :-(

Once you move away from the NI and NKS comparable VSTi and Kontakt libraries the documentation gets sparse indeed. Truth is with a little effort most can be made to utalise many of Komplete Kontrol's features. It almost like NI does not want you to know that.

shame that. I just loaded Komplete Kontrol into a session and it crashed Sonar, so yeah, hardly impressed with a very expensive midi-controller at this point.

I have not experienced any issues with the software in Sonar Platinum. Do you have the latest version oh KK?

Yes. I started a new project and loaded KK and it worked fine. I guess some kind of a conflict with that particular project which crashed when I loaded KK. I just hope there's not a hidden conflict in my system.

Hi again Glyn. Don't know whether you can help at this point. KK as a stand alone does not open any of my NI software. Keeps saying  'Plug-in not found - Please open the standalone application to rescan or rescan manually in the plug-in preferences'. Which I do but still nothing.

In Sonar with a new project, I'm able to access NI library okay, but am unable to find any of my 3rd party plug-ins. I do not see the 'plug-ins' option in the file menu as well? Do you know how to add my 3rd party plug-ins, like what directory I should be adding? I tried adding Sonar VST's 64bits, but the scan froze. Should this be occurring? Or is something not working here?

Appreciate your advice. Thanks

PS, KK stand alone version is: 1.5.1. (R3132)
