I like to ask if they have any left-handed MIDI cables, but that I'm only looking for the high-end, oxygen free type.

That's a great thread. I actually read the entire thing one rainy Saturday. Some of the respondents, however, didn't seem to get the point of it - several posts mocked GC salesdrones for making statements that turned out to be right.

Gearslutz can be a great time-waster. Here's what I do on rainy days: choose a forum and click on the Replies column heading. This sorts threads by the number of replies. The ones at the top of the list, the ones with thousands of responses, those are usually good popcorn material.

Funny.  I used it today to kill time because it was too warm to do anything - it was 90 degrees F in my room making it hard to move, I just kept wiping the sweat away and kept my face in front of the fan.

When it's cold and rainy is when I feel the most productive.  No idea why, but I just love those days.

I've been following that thread on & off for about 2 years - some of it is extremely funny, and it's also quite revealing the number of so-called 'engineers' who are coming out with total garbage!

We don't normally have to go that far from home to observe that particular phenomenon...

Ha ha! Thanks for that one. Hillarious!

The few shops we have around here is more or less ok. but there are a few bozo's around here as well. But I've actually never encoutnered anything like that. Most of the sales persons I've ever encountered either know what they are talking about, refer to a colleague or honestly admit that they doesn't know anything about that particular thing and offer to do a google search.

Great read though,

EDIT TO ADD: Sound and light guys, musicians and managers, now that's a different story

I found it interesting that the two GC's I spent the most money at were mentioned (Fountain Valley in California - It was excellent when I was going there and I only would deal with ONE guy, and Beaverton in Oregon where I again would only deal with ONE guy.  That guy quit when they ended giving discounts.)

At both the deal I made was that I wanted $2 over cost for everything, but I would be getting a lot of things (and I did, about $40,000 during one year).

Now all I get there are empty Kaman shipping boxes whenever I have to sell another piece from my collection!  *Sigh...*

Ain't that the truth Jon!

Which reminds me, I was in a GC in San Francisco, back in 2009. I though, well I've got to buy something while I'm here, and settled for a Boss pedal.

The "assistant" assured me that I'd need a separate PSU as "they don't run on batteries" <doh>

I refrained from pointing out that any PSU I bought in the US would be totally US when I got it home.
Of course it runs on bloody batteries.
