Just a little info for some of you getting all hot and bothered about this. This project was funded and started in 2006. These things do take a little time ya know.

And just in case you are curious, the party in control of the White House, Senate and House of Representatives were the Republican Party.

Now, you were saying?

Randy

That it was a much better use of tax payer money than going on vacations!  (But I wasn't one getting hot and bothered about it.)

I don't have a problem with Presidents taking vacations. They've all done it and it's expensive. It's not like they can just hop in the car with the family and go tooling around the country. And it's not like they can just leave and leave someone else in charge. It's a 24/7 job with pressures none of us can relate to. Actual leisure time is probably 4 or 5 hours a day while on vacation. This big old world doesn't stop just because the most powerful guy in the world wants to get out of town for a few days.

The point is they shouldn't be taking vacations if the people paying for it can't afford to go themselves (let alone the fact that many would like to use some of that money to eat and pay bills with).

I understand your point Craig. It's just not realistic. There has never been a time in our history when there wasn't unemployement or suffering of some kind. If the job of President required that you could never have a vacation or exhibit any kind of sense of enjoying yourself, no one would want the job. It's not like Presidents have ever said "Yeah, all you poor slobs can just watch me play golf cause I don't car about your plight".

I'm just not sure why it isn't realistic.  The last ten years that I was working full time I never had a chance to take a full week off (and I averaged 56.3 hours per week over that ten year span).  The environment was set up so that if you would probably be replaced if you didn't work all that extra time.

That said, I doubt anyone would care if they only took one or two vacations over a term, but the last several have really overdone it.  I'd much rather hear if there used to be life on Mars.  Our leadership (on both sides) act more like (bad) kings than what they're supposed to.

I guess I look at it like this. They take a job with immense pressure and like I said, it's 24/7. They are required to move the family into a city they've never lived before, and the family is required to have around the clock security everywhere they go. The only privacy is in the upstairs. The worlds media watches every public move you and your family make and every word you and they say. How you dress, what you eat, where you go, all of it. There isn't a brighter spot light or finer microscope to live under. They also get paid less than they were making when they took the job. All of them. I don't think any of them really get it until they get in there what's involved. I'm speaking of only of Presidents here.

Are they perfect? No. None of us are.

Actually, they're not looking for life on Mars, they're looking for the history of life on Mars. It all relates to our history and mythology and the theory-beleif that life existed on other planets in our solar system before the reordering of the planetary order that presently exists. In short, some theories state that more than one planet existed in the galactic "sweet spot" that supports life as we know it. Or, that the sweet spot was larger than it is now. Nuff said.

Vacations and working hours being compared between politicians
and civilians? Are you guys serious?

If so I can't wait until you get to the retirement benefits part.

It's only the tip of the iceberg of what pisses me off, but I'm done before I go deeper into TOS violation.

None of you really think you have any "say so" about any of this do you? We have completely lost control of the federal government. It is now government of the people, by the government, and for the government.
