Latest Sonar Platinum installed yesterday - Two issues - (1) With several soft synths - True pianos, SI-Electric Piano, SI-String Section, as soon as I play the first note, the synth stops playing. Other synths work fine. (2)  NI B4 works with insert-soft synth or dragging from instrument list, but it will not install using the Add track button - says it may not be installed properly. I reinstalled it, and also moved the dll files to all the normally used folders. Thanks for any help.

Kennyboz, welcome to the forum ! . . . since you've just installed Sonar Platinum you may have to configure some things to get it working right . . . for starters, what audio interface are you using, and are you totally new to Cakewalk products ? There always a lot of great help here on the forum, but it's best to let everyone know about your system specs to be able to know what's going on with your setup.

Thanks for the reply. My audio interface is a Behringer XR18 mixer, which has multi-track capabilities and a midi interface that have worked flawlessly. I am basically new to the Sonar versions. I have used earlier Cakewalk before in a very small way.

Hi. Quite a lot has happened in the last years. There are a lot of videos on SONAR both on YouTube and Cake TV. Towards the bottom of this page you can get up to speed with regards to how things are implemented now. https://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/SONAR-University/Get-Started
Karl Rose (Fast Bikerboy on this forum) made a whole series of videos about SONAR. They are from X2, but many of the things apply for the latest version as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR1DLE2UIfM&list=PLKRYWdEpbc5PgUgvrNuSvVyfv5qkll0qj
Hope it helps.
All the best

I appreciate all the helpful comments. To update my freezing issue, the soft synths that freeze only do so when playing them through the midi port using a controller keyboard. When using the add track button and a virtual keyboard comes up, they play fine. Play a note from the midi port and the synth blows up until reloaded. The midi port however continues to work, as I can then play a different synth through midi. At the moment, my big concern is finding a good piano plug-in that works. I think the synths I'm having problems with are old.

I posted about this earlier. When I load certain soft synths in Sonar Platinum or X3, if I play them using an external midi controller, they drop out and I must reload them. Update - I tried various midi interfaces and they all do the same thing, so it's not the interface. I can play very short notes without failure. Any note held on the keyboard longer than about 1/2 second will make the synth stop playing, until I reload the synth. Only certain synths do this, unfortunately all the ones I like, including freshly downloaded ones. I am at witt's end.

Are you talking about having to press the keyboard again, or do you have to reload the synth (delete and insert again)? Which synths and presets do you have this problem with? The more info, the easier to help.
All the best.

When it occurs, I must unload and reload the synth to try again. By the way, it happens always, not intermittent. It happens with all SI synths (Electric Piano, Sting Section, etc), Drop Zone, Pentagon, Rapture, Rapture Session, and probably others. Some do work, however, a few older ones. thanks for lending a hand.

More to this soft synth freezing with midi controller - as a test, I played Dimension Pro stand alone and it works fine. Inside Cakewalk Platinum, it freezes after about 1/2 second of key depressing. So, something is up with Platinum and X3 as well. Either Cakewalk has had a problem with this or there are insufficiently documented setup issues regarding these soft synths. Does Cakewalk have a competent technical help group? I am sure there are many users with the same problem.

I am not sure if it does make any difference, but have you tried to run SONAR as Administrator?
