A LOT has happened since X1. Really, that will be a pretty radical upgrade. Basic way of working remains the same, but with many, many refinements and additions.

It's easier to talk about specific benefits if you tell us a bit more about what kind of music you do, but I can't imagine anyone regretting that upgrade.

Tony,
My advice regarding your post is more general; I don't know how much the upgrade will be but I am assuming it won't be cheap so it would be a good idea to take a minute and think through what you want to accomplish, e.g. recording live, recording direct, recording MIDI keys or drums, creating loops, using other's loops, etc.  You should also consider what else is out there since the world of DAWs has moved on since X1.  Sonar, is very good and the latest version is a real improvement over X1 but there are several others you might consider, each with its own set of strengths and weaknesses in terms of capability.  In addition to this there are now several modes of ownership such as a subscription model, monthly membership or traditional upgrade to consider as well. There are plenty of reviews online these days.

It is most likely that you will choose Sonar but if you take stock now and make an informed decision you will likely be happier with your choice over the long haul.

Cheers.
