Hi Everyone ,

I am wondering why my project size is 116,000 kb but when its opened in win 10 > task manager shows 10,000 MB memory being used by sonar  ?

is this normal because it doesnt seem right ? or is there anything i can do to reduce this memory size ??

thanks

Do you have any soft synths in it? Keep in mind that a project on disk is mostly pointers for assets that the projects uses. These can be to audio files or synths or any number of things that the pointer itself takes up tiny bits of memory but the asset can be massive. A 64 bit FP audio file maybe huge. Or a sampler may access samples that require massive amounts of memory.

CW tries to keep the project file relatively small which makes it efficient.

Hi John

Ok thanks , would be nice if there was some type of database for individual VST memory usages inside sonar .

Or a program that can tell you what programs inside programs are using what amounts of memory .

Is there a program that can breakdown memory use for a application like sonar ?

This sort of thing is dynamic. In other words it depends . Some sample players can stream from disk or can be set to use as much memory as you have. For a given project on a given system it wouldn't matter how all the synths and audio files are handled. As long as your project loads and plays back well does it really matter how much memory is used? I've been doing this for a long time and have never been interested in how much memory is used.

Others may have the sort of answers you are looking for.

Unfortunately for me , it matters because my cpu and memory are spiking making my project playback a pain in the ???? , and with my system specs I shouldn't have to worry about it , anyways John I am doing a full reinstall today of win 10 , everything is out of control and I need a clean slate .

Thanks
