  • Should I worry about how far I keep my reference monitors away from my tower/interface? (p.3)

Cheers, spacey. I was considering something like that. Like creating some kind of sling. Here that would probably work rather well as there is a bulkhead right above my desk but I think the distance to the ceiling might be a little too far in a normal place (which I am desperately hoping to get in the next few months). I'm also concerned about them swinging or turning out of position. These monitors are HIGHLY directional. Even moving them half an inch makes a drastic change in the sound. Such a simple thing but this speaker placement business has me really messed up. :-(

I've never seen these spikey things ya'll are referring to... and what's a "terminal valet"? A parking attendant with 6 months to live? ;-p

BTW: even the new flat LCD displays will cause noise in the pickups on guitars. So be aware of that. the old CRT ones were really bad for that but the new ones will cause noise too.

I haven't had too many noise problems with the new rig but that would explain why I was getting so much line noise with my old set up which involved a big ole CRT.

Exactly!  I just have them hold the audio monitors for me (too bad I have to replace them so often though).

Actually, here's one version:

You can usually find them at any PC-type store.

If you scroll up in this thread and look at the picture of my last setup, you'll see two of those valets, one on each side, and each holding an audio monitor (on top of those slanted Auralex cushions - see pic below).

Ah, I see. Those things are pretty pricey though, aren't they? I'd actually like a few of them at some point because my different chairs and their heights but I gotta go ghetto for now lest I starve... more.
