Be Yourself (What you see is what you get)
Written and performed by Staypress
Backing vocals Elizabeth Greenway
V1
Who cares what people think? Too many it would seem.
How far do people sink to fulfill society's dream?
Prechorus 1
Be yourself in a world that is always out to change you
Shy? You'll get by
Why should someone rearrange you?
Chorus
What you see is what you get
And you ain't seen nothing yet....
V2
Don't try to fit right in - break the mould that has been made
Don't try 'cos you can't win the race that no-one can evade.
Prechorus 2
Be yourself in a world that is always out to change you
Shy? You'll get by
Why should someone rearrange you?
Be yourself in a world that is always out to change you
Weird? Grow a beard
Why should someone rearrange you?
Chorus
Prechorus 3
Be yourself in a world that is always out to change you
Shy? You'll get by
Why should someone rearrange you?
Be yourself in a world that is always out to change you
Fat? Wear a hat
Why should someone rearrange you?
Chorus to end

Really nice work Daryl! Very cool song. Love your style. The dry vocals and very minimal production with nice tasty embellishments keep it really interesting.
I think the mids and top are perfectly balanced. I think you have lots of room to push the bottom end. Seems to be shy around 40-70db. Would make the foundation even more engaging IMO.

I have always appreciated the "clean" quality to your mixes, and this is another fine example of that.
You have room to push the bass up, but as a known offender in that category, I confess that my mixes don't sound as "clean" as yours, so I wonder, part of that little trick might be to keep the bass on the controlled side. Low frequencies that are boosted likely eat energy from the upper frequencies and make things in general harder to mix in higher frequencies. Just wondering out loud here . . .

Howard Jones and Nik Kershaw are two of my favorites and honestly they don't really top your song here. Excellent job. If we are voting, I'd be tempted to remove the "Mr Roboto" quality to some of the vocals, particularly at the end.
The nifty melody can stand on its own, I think.

cheers,
-Tom

Nice work.  I love the 8-bit type sounds at the beginning.  Nice clean mix as well, all instruments can be heard clearly.

Really nice song & mix that translated very cleanly, clearly, and beautifully on my H-phones.....top notch stuff my bro!! (a subtle hint of Beatlesque style in there).

Very clean and clear mix, which, like emeraldsoul, I appreciate. The brightness only goes over the edge a bit on the tambourine, which is piercing on my unforgiving ADAM ribbon tweeters.

I have never had to grow a beard. I've found if I do nothing at all, it just appears of its own accord. Unlike, say, carrots, which require some effort.
