Honestly, I much prefer the ability to customize Sonar before X1. I really hate so much being put on drop down menus. I much prefer the key binding list. I recently bought a new copy of Sonar 8. It seems I can't download 8.5.2 and 8.5.3,although I saw it a while ago. Does Anyone know how I can do this? I have registered my new Sonar 8. Or does anyone have 8 Producer, 8.5.2 and 8.5.3 they Don't use and can sell it cheap?

SONAR 8.5 was a paid upgrade.

Also non transferable by EULA. Some one may be willing to give you theirs, license code and registration code but even that is not legal and is a little unethical.

Cakewalk by Bandlab includes the theme editor which is by far more customizable then Sonar 8.5 as it stands, also the key binding is still there. You are better off using the updated and current version as it is in constant developement and will be for the foreseeable future.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I have 8 and 8.5 but I honestly can't think why anyone would think it's better or more customisable than what we have 10 years later. Certainly not for any serious work.

If I were you, I'd just download the new free version of Cakewalk ByBandlab (CBB) and use that.
It's far better that 8.5 will ever be, even though I thought 8.5 was a stable build myself. The features in the New CBB are great and plentiful.

I have used 8.5 upto last year, I love that version for it's simple editing way. Although it is very old but good yet. hhh

Where on earth could you "recently" buy SONAR 8, and what do you mean by "new copy"? Did you already  have one before? Cakewalk-Gibson being out of busines, how could you register it (I assume Bandlab doesn't register those old versions)?

As mentioned above, 8.5 hasn't been available in nearly ten years, and there is no registration transfer method available, so you can't buy second hand versions. Or, of course you can, if you buy registered version and get all the activation keys with it (this goes with 8.5 and older, which only needed one code). I can't see using unauthorized copies of old SONARs  as a legal problem in the present situation. Then again, who would need to do so, when CW by Bandlab is free of charge?

I'm also on 8.5 still, and it's enough for me. Upgrading would mean upgrading everything: PC, audio interface, many (most?) of the VSTs etc. Which I can't afford at the moment, so I live in uncertainty - how long will my setup work...

You can still bind all your keys in Sonar X1 and above (including CbB). Just go to Preferences->Customization->Keyboard Shortcuts (you'll need the Advanced radio button selected at the bottom).

It really doesn't matter anymore but obviously a pirated copy. There used to be hundreds of them including the updates and patches. ( Hmm, why do I know this :? )
This is why they got rid of the serial number activation system. But that's all water under the bridge
