  • Is there going to be anything new and exciting for Cakewalk??? (p.2)

Lord Tim has a good point... swapping the spacebar with the functionality of ALT-F4 would definitely be "new and exciting" (for a time), but wouldn't be a highly desired feature.

Well, let's turn the question around: What things are you missing from the program? What new and exciting thing would you like to see?

^^^^   Defining "new and exciting" is in the eye of the beholder.  Well, at least "exciting" is because not everyone wants or needs the same things.   For example, as often as it's mentioned I have little interest in the Chord Track feature.  But that's just me.

As far as "new" goes, I was curious so just grabbed these highlights:

New in Cakewalk 2018.06:
In addition to workflow enhancements and bug fixes, the following new features are introduced in the 2018.06 release:
Note draw duration buttons
Improved continuous controller drawing
VST Scan enhancements

New in Cakewalk 2018.05:
In addition to workflow enhancements and bug fixes, the following new features are introduced in the 2018.05 release:
Show custom channel strip colors in all themes
Phase and Mono/Stereo Interleave buttons in Track view
Enable/disable Auto Track Focus in Piano Roll view
Move/copy notes between tracks in Piano Roll view
Export to BandLab
Language switching
Clean Audio Folder enhancements

New in Cakewalk 2018.04:
In addition to workflow enhancements and bug fixes, the following new features are introduced in the 2018.04 release:
Apply settings from a track template to an existing track
Dark Piano Roll view with Tungsten theme

Aside from the Language Switching and Export To BandLab, I have already and/or will likely use every one of these additions. For me, stuff I can actually use is exciting.

I don't use MIDI much at all, but Sonar lacks easy composition tools.

Few things are as important as composition and I think most people would benefit from more tools in that "space"

Even an audio centric person like myself recognizes the need for such tools even if those "tracks" are scrapped for the actual production.  Showing where chord changes are, should be pretty basic stuff in this day and age of music creation.

Have you seen what Cubase and Pre-Sonus have done with Chord Track as it relates to actual Audio?  It is pretty impressive stuff.

I do understand what those tools do and why many would like to see them added - they certainly have value.  I just don't have much need for it myself for the way I work.

My post was more about the OP's statement that nothing "exciting" has happened - it's all relative.

Since you ask.... I agree a chord track would be very useful..
unless this something you just can't add to this software program
because the code is outdated or something... who knows

Get rid of CAL scripts in favour of something more user friendly.
Expression Maps.

Those are two things off the top of my head I'd love see done in Cakewalk.

The general replies in this thread and SteveC's post is what I was getting at. Aside from one or two other specific things mentioned, apparently a Chord Track is the one new and exciting feature that we need. Thanks for coming, everyone!

Obviously that's being a bit asinine there, but everyone has different needs. One guy's staff view is another guy's Audiosnap pallette. It's probably better to ask "what am I missing from the workflow?" rather than just waiting for some huge paradigm change to turn up.

Now this isn't dismissing the OP at all, believe me - have a look at my post up in the Feature Requests thread... and that's just a small part of what I'd love to see added! But with a program as mature as CbB is now, and the fact that since it's come back it's gotten some serious love with bug fixes and stuff added that people have been asking about for years, we really need to ask what it's missing rather than going "huh, old code, why is there nothing new I like" I reckon.

It's a pretty complete DAW as it is, and even if development stopped with SPlat when Gibson killed the company last year, that still would have been good enough for pro-level projects. It's only getting better, IMO.

...
I know as long time users we were promised a lot
of things I have not seen anything special yet.
...

Promised what ? By whom ? If I may ask.
