That means all The CHB music is free?

I'm affused.

Do we have to give back all the money?

This is exactly why I always sell the material others make under the table.

(Not sure why they make things under the table, but that's another story...)

Today, Canada.  Tomorrow, the US.

It's a good thing our work isn't worth anything.  I sure would hate to think what life would be like if people were compensated for their work.  We should keep this idea going.  Let's take everyone's income away.  The people don't do anything important with it anyway.  With no income, the Government wouldn't have any revenue, but they're so Smart, I'm sure they've already got that covered.  Of course, we'd lose everything we have in the process.  Starvation might take a few weeks, but we'd get used to it.  Out of concern for our Wise and Wonderful leaders, we could all lay down in mass graves to make the clean up easier.

What do you mean, I'm overreacting?

Just to be clear I'm actually all for internet freedom and the like. What gets me steamed is when the people who have done the least to create the music get rewarded the most. Here in Canuckerland we have new draconian anti piracy laws to fill the pockets of the mega media moguls and copyright lawyers but when SOCAN (which is essentially a non profit) tries to secure a slice for the people actually creating the music they get smacked down. It's awful awful stuff.

Oh and the governing body that is supposed to keep these jokers in line (the CRTC... basically the Canadian version of the FCC) has been filled with people directly affiliated with the media moguls. They can create whatever laws they like to benefit their masters. And people wonder why all the music on the radio sucks these days.

I asked both of the people who still listen to radio.  They already knew...

Gotta love throwback holdouts.

Me thinks you missus the point. I agree with the ruling:

They will still have to pay a royalty to copy a song, but will no longer be charged a separate tariff for transmitting it to a customer over the internet.

...it shouldn't matter how a copy of work is delivered — whether it is bought in a store, ordered through the mail or downloaded digitally, the same copyright rules should apply. SOCAN isn't allowed to collect a separate royalty on video games that are bought in a real store so it isn't entitled to one when a game is bought online, according to the court decision.
It doesn't make sense to distinguish between two methods of selling the same work, the court said.
