I have searched but have not found instructions on how to flip the phase let's say of a drum track where I can actually see the wave forms have changed.  I know Channel tools has an option and a few other plugins mention things about phase but I can't tell that anything has changed so I am looking for how to physically see the phase has changed.

Not sure why you want to see it, but you can apply the Channel Tools effect to a track and destructively alter the waveform to its "phase-flipped" state.

You lost me with destructively alter the wavefrom to its "phase-flipped" how do you do that and what setting do you use on channel tools to do this?

I usually click the Phase button on the track in the Console View.
 
If you want to see the modified waveform, you could Bounce To Track once you've reversed the phase. I haven't tried that but I would be surprised if it didn't work.

To destructively apply audio plug-ins effects use Process > Apply Effect > Audio Effects
Bounce would create a new track with effects applied if "Track FX" is selected in bounce options.

 
The top track is the original waveform. The lower track has the phase (technically speaking polarity, but that's a geek thing ) flipped. To do this:
 
1. Insert Channel Tools into the track with the clip you want to flip.
2. In the Channel Tools UI, check the Phase button for both channels.
3. Click on the clip you want to flip (this selects it).
4. Choose Process > Apply Effect > Audio Effects.
 
This will modify the waveform (hence the term "destructive") and flip the polarity.
 
I do think "click on the clip you want to flip" may have lyrical possibilities

This is what I am looking for, I could have sworn I tried most of this and it did not work I will try again.  For step 2 kind of confused when you say Phase for both channels can you clarify for me please?

In the Channel Tools UI, click the [Greek symbol] L and [Greek symbol] R buttons toward the upper left.
