I was going to upgrade to Melodyne 4 because of the tempo mapping...but reading a thread here made me further investigate using the feature in Sonar.  It rocks.  Amazing is all I can say.  I "free played" a keyboard part...trimmed the dead space at the beginning...lined it up with a beat to start...dragged the audio file into the timeline.  My Toontrack follows incredibly well.  Wow..  this is a feature I can really use for getting some "feel" into my music and matching up MIDI instruments to tracks given to me by others.

Well done Sonar.  I'm blown away.  I'll stay on Melodyne Editor 2 as well.  I have yet to really use it anyway.  Sonar's the ticket for my plugs and stuff like this.  Dang...don't mean to rant, but this is like Christmas.

Hi. I have just tried it a bit, but I will be using this feature a lot in the time to come. It is very cool!
All the best.

Don't forget that for tough cases, you should set Melodyne for Percussion mode.

I rarely use Melodyne.  I was stoked because Sonar could do the tempo mapping now...and it's just too easy.  I've been on the fence about upgrading from Editor2 to Studio4, but I don't think I'm going to spend the $150, even if the deal is sweet.  I just don't use it really.  But the tempo mapping...now in Sonar...that's another issue.  I gets lots of tracks from friends that record on their laptop or whatever...no click, and the performances are usually quality enough to use and have fun with adding tracks...drums, etc.

Plus...this is going to just let me noodle and then keep something if I like it.  No worries about tempo drifts.  If anything, it'll add to the feeling in most cases...

But the tempo engine mapping is in Melodyne, so when you create a Region FX to do Tempo Mapping, Melodyne is the engine that makes it possible...and to carry the analogy further, ARA is the transmission.

How effective is this tempo mapping likely to be if all I have to give it is a stereo live recording of a band? In other words, I have no isolated drum track. Has anybody tried this, and what was the result?

so i would be advised to upgrade melodyne for better tempo mapping?
