Hi,
209. The only folks that know all these things, are folks that love to watch, adore, worship, and make their donations to the church of the top ten factory ... to prove that you will always feed the boss and someone richer than you!
Other than the fact I am a child of WW2 (born 1950 and dad was in the Portuguese Navy at the time), too many of the films that came from Hollywood are not that great ... everyone loves "A Star is Born" ... and all I see is a woman singing in front of blue and pink pastel backdrops and a nice lighting effect with a filter to make sure her complexion is nice and clear, not to mention some magnificently staged makeup!
It made sense at the time ... because the war, the pictures and the sadness ... and all of a sudden ... something like this is cool, different, hopeful and ... full of ****! But it is a nice thing for the imagination compared to the no chance, and ugly world that most people live in.
It's hard to tell people that "Guernica" is what some streets in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, England ... had to show you ... it was NOT a movie!
Now you know why so much Fellini, Godard, and other crazies out there are so much fun to watch ... because, they are not trying to convince you that you are just plugging up the coffers of some rich folks that you would NOT even consider inviting to lunch! ... but something else. And of course, asking folks to see how Godard turned all of these ... I mean ALL of THESE listed things inside out and upside down in his films ... is not something that you can consider or understand! ... you do not know of anything different to even consider that possibility.
Godard, for example, in one film, and you already know he loves talking over his films, ... has a scene where the car comes into a stall for gas, and when it arrives, he stops and says ... I don't like how that looked. So you see the car come backwards, in total reverse of previous stuff, and then drive in to a different stall for gas ... so Marina could get out of the car and show off her legs, which she could not do so before!
It's a whole different ball game ... but you can go and pay for Pulp Fiction, and you have no idea where half of that film came from ... and Anna Karina was far sexier and neat than Uma ever was!
