  • Are you using Platinum or Cakewalk by Bandlab (p.5)

I'll be sticking with Platinum for the near future. I wasted so much time with CbB jumping through hoops trying to get out of demo mode until I eventually lost interest. I'll return to it again when I feel motivated.

Platinum here, along with SO3 Pro.  Have not downloaded/installed CbB

I actually recorded/produced a song for a paying client recently - I went with the tried and true...and familiar...Platinum.

My latest original song is a SO project.

I'm using Platinum, only because there is no offline authorization option with CbB, and I don't have internet at my house. Otherwise, I would have updated to CbB on day one.

Just an aside, but in these days tethering to your phone via wi-fi is so simple - almost the best of both worlds really - offline when using Sonar and only online when updating via tethering. Been doing this a couple years at my studio with no complaints.

Some people see 'mobile phone', and think, "what is that? Is that like a telegram?"

Seriously a telegram?
I think you mean people like me. I only reject those things called "stupid phones" that steal the time of many people. Else I have rarely a very old mobile phone with me. I am glad like that!

Eh, I've forgotten my answer to the OP.

Most of the time I use CbB on my laptop. And my experience or better said my feeling is that it is a little bit more robust, but it also crashed sometimes.

On my tower I have not installed it yet and I am waiting for the time of some next versions. But at the moment I work more with the laptop anyway (even it is a bit weak).

The end of the year I had bought the Samplitude Pro Suite. Hence sometimes I also try to use Samplitude, but most of the time I do not feel comfortable with it, so I switch to CbB (or Sonar).

I am using both.  My DAW world has changed radically in the past12 months.  After years of using Audacity, I jumped to SONAR X1 and that was my only DAW environment through SPLAT.  Easy to use and did everything I wanted.  Along the way, my studio computer became pretty disorganized as I purchased various VST effects and VST instruments.  I have wanted to start fresh, but there is so much installed on that machine now I just can't bear the thought of a clean sweep.
Last year, I had a collaboration that required StudioOne Pro.  And then when Gibson dumped Cakewalk, I purchased Cubase 9.5.  I was thinking about that anyway because my plan was to move notation to Dorico, which I am now doing at Dorico 2.0.
I didn't use SONAR at all during that period between Gibson and Bandlab because I figured my time was better spent leaning Cubase.

==========

Once Bandlab announced they were going to carry CbB, I felt empowered to resume using SPLAT.  It really is convenient for many small jobs, so I use SPLAT 3 or times a month now.  But I don't need any more features and am not really bothered by any particular bugs.  So I am not planning to touch my SPLAT setup at least for a year or two.

==========

I did recently install CbB on a laptop computer I use for field recording.  Previously I have used TracksLive on that machine simply for tracking.  But there is a project coming us where they want to set up more of a live studio process (multiple takes and immediate playback of a rough mix) in the field.  It took me 3 or 4 hours to get everything working right, but that seems to work OK.

I am aware of the option of tethering. Unfortunately my cell service provider prohibits it and will deactivate your phone if it detects it.

Hi. I've been using CbB since its release. I still have SPlat installed, but haven't opened in a while.
Haven't had a reason to do so yet, as CbB works better for me than SPlat ever did.
And I never had any issues with going straight over to CbB.

The same here, I've only really opened SPLAT since CbB's release to compare the performance/features of the two from time to time. I would rather be working in an app that is still being updated with new features, enhancements and bug fixes. None of which is occurring with SPLAT since it's demise. I am keeping SPLAT installed so I can use all of the extra features/content I paid for as I use CbB.

I actually fully agree with you on that.
