It's been raining now for over 2 hours.

And I don't mean a gentle shower - it's absolutely hammering down without let up, like I said, for over 2 hours.

In July.

I had the same reaction after experiencing Hurricane Debbie (it was more like a tropical storm), and of course it rained quite a bit (longest being 2 days straight).

Jonesey, it looks like this is unusual for your area, no?

We're used to having ****ty summers, but this one has to be the worst since records began.

And where we are is right at the Southern part of this storm, I can only imagine what it's like further North

A months rainfall in a single day. And it's been wet for most of June and so far all of July.

The worst since history began was 1987 in SW Germany. It rained for 55 solid days... and I mean rain. On day 40, I began to wonder what all the fuss in the bible was about.

But...... have you known rain like THIS?

I think (and I ain't no meteorologist) it's because the jet stream is below the UK, whereas it's usually above us..this is preventing us getting high pressure coming up from the south..or summat.

That's exactly what it is James. I read a whole ago that we can't expect any decent weather until September.

I've just had a text from a mate in Majorca.

30 degrees in the shade and wall to wall sunshine.

Yeppers....

Here it has been HOT for about 2 weeks. I had to get out and work in it because my help got really behind.... perfect timing that... it was over 42 degrees c / about 109 f either Thursday or Friday around 40.5 c / 105 f the other days. I came home early today, got done what I needed to do and came home... today it was 36 c / 97 f.
After a while it makes one feel ill. I hope this wave breaks soon.

We're getting bad popup thunderstorms too. A few days ago a few counties south of here a thunderstorm produced hurricane force winds and flipped a bunch of big trucks over in a lot... crazy!

Everybody hang in there!

For once we're getting the lighter end of the bad weather, i.e. less rain, but it's hot and very humid here in Scotland, and the black flies are swarming this year, not pleasant to be working outdoors (which I do). Whatever happened to blue skies and sunshine in summer?

I've just looked at the forecast for our area and the rain is set to continue all night, all day tomorrow and all day Sunday.
Monday is cloudy with a few showers, Tuesday it's back to more heavy rain.
