I hate planes and flying just as much as I like Buddy Holly.
And Randy Rhoads.
And Stevie Ray Vaughan.

The minute I can stand the sound of my own singing voice, I'll add him to the list. Until then, for everyone's sanity, I'll stick w/ guitar and guitar players. ;)

Ahh, the first gen Bonanza. The plane was a high performance aircraft and the unique V tail made handling tricky. It caused a lot of accidents with inexperienced pilots. Beautiful plane though. Love the instrument panel.

Although I accept that there maybe something to ... the time is up ... thing, I really doubt that the plane is at fault in many of these moments. But sometimes things happen, and that's that!

In Stevie's case, it has been said that the thing was overloaded ... and that is gross negligence in my book. Others might be pilot error, or not a good decision, but let's remember that if you see one of these ... there is a great picture of one ... where the pilot got it down safely and no one was hurt or died! Those folks ... deserve a pat in the back.

If you ever have a chance, read Chuch Yeager's book about his days experimenting with the speed of sound ... and he will be the first one to tell you that even in those crafts, it was more about what you knew or did not know about the machine that made the difference. And if you read that far ... you really want to read about the slide rule thing and the TV antennas thing ... very funny and enjoyable!

Oh I have no doubt about it. I'm just not comfortable w/ heights - we live on the 9th floor and that's about as much as I can take - as long as I don't stand near windows. ;) Imagine on a plane - plus I'm 6'3", so unless I'm traveling first class, there's just no way I can enjoy being on a plane, even when it's not in the air.

I've flown a couple of planes, both LITTLE Cesna 140's (the kind where you can close the opposing door without stretching your arm out).  I'm 6'4" and my knees were hitting the yolk when I was using the pedals...  Plus on one trip we were flying back into Long Beach's big airport so there were huge planes all around us making me feel like I could go outside and push the thing faster...
