No just towards the end of the month when its due to expire so that it can check for renewal.

Maybe when it checks for expired membership it could ask the user to save any unsaved work before switching to demo mode?

Or at least put up an non-cancelable modal dialog which asks the user to save and exit or retry the renewal check.

This has happened to me every single day since I installed. When I turn on the DAW and run sonar for the first time, I load a song and immediately check by doing a save as, and demo mode pops up. The only way to get it to run properly is to exit, and run CCC and hit launch first.

That's a good suggestion.  Although in this case, the demo mode may be a glitch, what if someone paying monthly starts a project and after several hours of recording, the monthly anniversary rolls over, Sonar goes to Demo mode and locks them out of the ability to save?

I paid up-front, so barring a bug, this shouldn't happen to me, but with those who pay monthly, they NEED to be able to save the first time Sonar reverts to Demo mode.  Sure, lock them out after that, but I can imagine how devastated I would feel if I lost hours of work because my membership timed out in the middle of a large project.

If this feature is already baked in, please forgive my ignorance.

Under normal circumstances its designed to warn you that it will turn into demo mode. There is a grace period and a notification like this will pop up "SONAR will switch to demo mode in X days. Please activate."

If its switching to demo mode without a warning, either there is a real billing issue with the current payment or there is some unexpected condition occuring. In either case you should contact support to verify the circumstances. We have had at least a few cases where people cancelled their payment (unknowingly) leading to this issue.
Of course if its a bug we'll fix it promptly.

I don't think they thought of everything.  For the 20th time when I turn on my workstation and start Sonar Platinum, it has started in demo mode. The only way to get running is the CCC and get on line and launch. I have to run a 40 foot cat 5 cable down the hall to do this. The error in about sonar is (40,-2) I'm loosing faith and confidence in this business model. I am an annual membership customer by the way.

Hi stonehedge and anyone in this thread running Sonar on a system not connected to the internet,

The current version of Sonar requires an internet connection to authorize when using CCC. If your recording DAW does not have an internet connection you should use the offline authorization process described here:

https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013384/SONAR-Platinum-Professional-Artist-Offline-Authorization

This is a file gen system that allows you to authorize Sonar without an internet connection.

Hi Dan,

here is what happened to me a few days ago.
- I paid for 1 month of Platinum membership (on January 22)
- I downloaded and installed all parts using C3 and activated Sonar and played with it multiple times (on a machine connected to internet).

A few days ago Sonar went to DEMO mode while using it. Just without any apparent reason.

If this happens again to me, I will report this as bug and provide you with serial numbers shown on "About" page as suggested earlier.
