  • Note Properties - How to view them in the Piano Roll View?

In Sonar 8.5 and earlier, we could right click on a note in the to view its properties.

In Sonar X1, we had to ctrl-right click (since right click deleted the note).

In Sonar X2, right click still deletes the note, but ctrl-right click no longer opens the Note Properties window.

How do we access note properties?

Double-click causes a note to play on the first click. Is there an alternative?

Switch your Smart Tool to Select (the arrow), then right-click.  It's slightly inconvenient because you have to switch tools and X2 is supposed to be about not having to switch tools, but that's the best way I've found so far.  (And I find that right-click to delete kind of annoying.)

I've never gotten used to it, and would love to be able to force right click to open note properties (without having to switch tools) but don't know how.

I don't think you can, but it would certainly be nice to have right-click act like it used to and use a key modifier to delete, since you likely do that less often than inspect note properties.

Aren't all note properties displayed in the Event Inspector? Just click any note and all relevant parameters are immediately visible

Yes, I remembered that after I responded.  'Thing there is, you need to be careful that when you click, you position the mouse so that it's in the middle of the note (the mouse becomes the Move icon (4-headed arrow)) to make sure you don't inadvertently make any changes.  This isn't so bad, though, and then right-click as delete isn't so bad, either.

I haven't gotten entirely used to all that the Control bar can do yet.

Most of my note editing happens with drums or other rhythmic notes. Some of those hits are very narrow, so clicking in certain parts of the note is impossible.

Yesterday I had some bass notes which were too short. I was trying to make them longer by a few ticks (e.g., from 35 to 45). In Sonar 8.5 and earlier, I did this by right clicking and changing "35" to "45", which was easy. In Sonar X1 it was a pain having to remember to ctrl-right click instead of right click. And now in X2 I have to double-click, which makes a sound on the first click. Since I often edit during playback, I really don't want my note editing to create sounds.

Why oh why did Cakewalk have to *force* us to use the new "smart tool" and not give us the option of using the methodology that we were used to? It's been almost 2 years since I started using the "smart tool" and I still remain frustrated by it!

Drum notes should really be edited via a drum map where they are all displayed at exactly same length, even if they aren't. Try it.

Also, in X2, you can simply lasso a note and adjust it's length or whatever other property directly in the Control Bar.

This stuff is EASY........
