  • Big Noise When Using VocalSync

I've just got around to trying out VocalSync on a harmony-heavy project I'm working on.

I designated a lead track as the reference, then selected a region in a harmony track to sync up with it. I see the waveform above the line shifting around as I turn the dial. So far, OK.

But when I try to play the selected part of the song to hear the effect of VocalSync, I get a horrendous bass noise. It sounds like feedback, as if there's a loop somewhere. It continues until I remove the Region Effect, or close the project.

Has anyone else has this problem, or even better, solved it?

Thanks.

If you can make a simplified version your project with the audio available we can take a look at it.

Thanks, Noel. Should I attach it here or send it with a support request?

It may not be the same issue, but I had a similar experience due to a reverb plugin on the reference track (a slight oversight on my part).

I removed the VST from the FX bin, adjusted the sync, rendered the harmony track and reinstated the reverb.

(I also had to comfort my dog, who almost fainted when the feedback loop kicked in).

Thanks, Songroom. I deleted everything in the project except a couple of vocal tracks and some busses. No effects.

I'm finding that I can just about use VocalSync when both the guide track and reference track are routed to the main outs of my interface. If I route them to a Vocal bus which then goes to a Master bus, I get feedback.

I've looked at my routing every way I can and I don't see why there should be any feedback. And of course I don't get any feedback except when I use VocalSync.

I also made a fresh project consisting of two short vocal tracks of me counting to four, plus a Master bus, a Vocal bus, and a Reverb bus.

I get some minor ticking artifacts, but nothing like on the other two project I tried VocalSync on, nor like the cut down version that I sent to Noel.

In the fresh project, I can route to the main outs, Master, or the Vocal bus, with or without a send to the Reverb bus, and all I hear is the minor ticking.

Weird.

Yes it's a strange one. It's very likely that my project included a vocal bus too, so that may well be part of the problem.

I'm sure Noel will identify the cause, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread :-)

The only problem I saw in his project was that the prochannel Rematrix Reverb had somehow no waveform loaded and therefore was silencing the entire reverb bus. After I selected a preset it worked fine.

Still haven't figured this out. Since the file I sent to Noel worked on his system, the problem has to be in my hardware or software setup.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) my setup is pretty simple. PC connected to RME UFX via USB, RME outputs going to an A&H 16:2 mixer, A&H main outputs to my powered monitors. I never experience anything like feedback except using VocalSync.

Also, I don't know how to reconcile the fact that the problem is much worse when the output is routed through busses with a setup problem on my end. As far as my hardware and software is concerned, the routing within SONAR is invisible. At least I think that's the case.

Oh well. I suppose I can just clip and nudge or use Melodyne.
